5.0 out of 5 stars Just Love it, 1 Oct 2004
I don't know whether I'm the right person to review this album. I think Richmond Fontaine are simply the best band out there on the road. 'Post to Wire' has been my album of 2004. I got 'Winnemucca' as soon as it was re-release and it is just great, I love it. If you thought Willy Vlautin's stories were good on PTW you'll think this is great too. 'Out of State' and '5 Degrees Below Zero' are masterpieces. 'Northline' has to be my favourite Richmond Fontaine track, I just melt listening to it! Anyone who liked 'Post to Wire' and passes this by needs help, buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Up there with "Post to Wire", 12 Nov 2004

When I discovered Richmond Fontaine through this years "Post to Wire" I determined to dig into their back catalogue only to find it unavailable. So I was very pleased to find this re-release and even more pleased to discover that "Post to Wire" was not a case of a band suddenly finding their muse, but more a case of a band that should have been discovered years ago. Winnemucca is slightly behind PTW in my sensibilities, but probably because I found the latter first and have played it more often. I intend to catch up.

5.0 out of 5 stars masterpiece, 26 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This album puts music alongside the worlds greatest literature. The beauty and humanity in Northline, 5 Degrees Below Zero and especially Western Skyline just puts this band into rare company and must make them far removed from most of the bands we have been listening to for the past decades. As important as Neil Young or Dylan, but most people don't know it. I know The Fitzgerald has been acknowledged as a major album, but Winnemucca is is better, richer, more beautiful than anything I have ever heard before, to the point of not being able to play anything after it, because anything in comparison is simply lame. I have approaching 1000 CD's in my collection, and this is the one I would rescue if the house was burning. This band are the most important currently and this album is their best to date. If you love the places where truly great music can take you, then your life would be richer for having this album. I don't believe anyone could be unmoved by it. An astonishing masterpiece.

You know how it is - you find a decent band, so decide to invest in their back catalogue only to find some disappointmment. Not so Richmond Fontaine. Read more

Very little to add to the three other reviews except to reiterate how good this album and this band are. Willy Vlautin is probably the best story writer in the USA at present. Read more
