Amazon.co.uk Review
Hell Night, a horror film originally made in 1981, is not remotely frightening unless, that is, you are plagued with a pathological aversion to leaden scripts, rampant overacting and cheap special effects; but it is just about knowing enough to be charming, and retains a (very) slight kitsch appeal.

The plot--in the loose sense of the word--sees a group of picturesque young college kids compelled, for some reason or other, to spend a night in a haunted house (you can just picture the high fives at the script meeting when some genius came up with that one). Some other college kids try to scare them by way of a prank, but it turns out that something evil really is loose on the premises, and events unfold with entrancing predictability.

On the DVD: Hell Night is presented in widescreen, and has been digitally remastered. Special features include brief biographies of actor Linda Blair, director Tom De Simone and producers Irwin Yablans and Bruce Cohn Curtis, as well as the option to watch the film with commentary provided by the four. The original cinema and television trailers for Hell Night are also included.--Andrew Mueller

5.0 out of 5 stars hell of a movie !, 12 Jul 2007
yes its linda"the exorcist"blair in a gutsy role .
a group of students have to spend the night in "garth manor" as part of their graduation "initiation "ceremony .
garth manor is not only supposed to be haunted but has a terrifying history.
the garth family were all brutally murdered & some say "landrew"the only
son was mad & murdererd them all ! even bloody worse ,hes still living in
the cellars of the manor & bumps off & collects the bodies of all these
students ,except gutsy linda blair who eventually drives her car at the
beast impaling him on the manor gates ! my only ctritism is a lot of the
killings & chases take places at night ,it looks likes the lighting man
was fired ! but it is scary & all the scenes with landrew jumping on
victims always catches me even though ive seen it several times.
its a cross between friday the 13th & halloween & the old dark house movie
grrrrrrrrr8 ,try it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre addition to the dated eighties safe horror genre, 2 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Linda Blair took this on despite the fact that following the Exorcist she vowed never to exploit herself in the genre. It appears though that the only person exploited at present would be the poor person that buys this looking for something new or uncensored for their DVD collection. The action there is takes place around Garth Manor, an abandoned mansion with a legend relating to a murdered family and their deranged son,Andrew. A bunch of young frat guys are initiating two new pledges, as are a bunch of young sorority girls - the idea being that the four spend the night in the spooky mansion and...survive! Anyway, after some lame pranks, the monster within the four walls pops up and starts offing the cast in the usual order. The good points are:eighties synths a twidling away, competant direction, moderate but effective gore and the pace is thankfully brisk, with at least a resolution that stops any idea of a sequel in its tracks. The problem is with the re-release of the banned material from the 1984 act is that the majority of the films taken from the shelf were actually the made-for-TV-quality horrors like this that have now resurfaced with notoriety when there was none in the first place. Just waiting to take the cash from people looking for that "New York Ripper", I can't imagine anyone other than completists happy with this purchase.
