Ricki Lake plays Baby Cakes, a woman who falls in love with a subway motorman and stops at nothing to win him over from his fiance in this comedy of extremes. This is a movie that shows that love isn't limited to the beautiful people of the world.The movie is an odd story. Ricki Lake is an over weight girl who has the interesting and odd job of doing the make-up for people who have passed on and are going to be viewed. She feels like she's missing something in life because she's over weight. She is obsessed with the guy who drives her subway. But who would possible love someone who looks like her. But she is determined to win her man.

The story line is not all that complex, but I think it hits a note in people of all types. I don't think there is anyone who really feels adequate when it comes to looks. Be it they are over weight, or too skinny, or think they are ugly. But I think that the determination and self confidence that Ricki's character shows in this movie is some thing that everyone is encouraged by. It shows that love is possible no matter who you are or what you look like.

I think this movie touches something in everyone, whether you are over weight or not. There are very few romantic movies that involve over weight people and attempt to show them in a romantic light. Many times the over weight person is shown as unhappy or a clown. This movie shows her in a light of a romantic, leading role. Not everyone will like this. Many men find over weight woman as unattractive and ugly. There are many men that would be completely turned off by this movie, probably women too. But for those of you who can accept that people are beautiful for who they are, not what they look like, this is a sweet movie that I would recommendfor everyone.

I remember watching this years ago when i was bunking off school it was billed as a tv movie & i was (&still am a huge ricki lake fan!) expecting this film to be bit corny but it was an instant hit i searched for years to get it but then i totally forgot it, this year for my b-day my hubby was searching &found the dvd for me & even he enjoyed it I was just pleased it lived up to my first impression of it, Ricki has a true sparkle when on screen & is a gem to watch, I wish she would do more stuff NOW anyone wanting to see her natural, cheeky,saucy comical self will love this film & be a fan such as me enjoy!!
