Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
When Acclaim lost the extremely lucrative rights to produce the official WWF game, they invested in the WCW licence--which promptly went bankrupt. Without another recognisable federation to back, they produced a game featuring ex-wrestling stars. Legends of Wrestling's presentation lacks the polished sheen of WWF SmackDown. Character selection and in-between bout screens are basic and static affairs. This lack of polish is highlighted by the pre-bout introductions, where the wrestlers high-five non-existent crowd members on the way down to the ring; here they inexplicably pause until the next loading sequence kicks in. Once you get into the ring, though, the game has a much more solid feel. But it comes at a price: the slow-paced action. Plus, the computer AI can be poor as it often ignores chances to finish off defenceless opponents. Despite this, there is enjoyment to be had. Fights with three or four wrestlers are fun but as with most games of this genre, multiplayer is where this game takes off; it supports up to five players (yes, you can be the referee). A simple career mode and unlockable wrestlers add to the package along with the simple joy of smashing chairs over your opponents' heads. Legends of Wrestling does push the genre in the right direction with interesting additions such as a counter gauge which enables you to evade attacks with a well timed button press. If you're not put off by its slow nature and basic look, it's an enjoyable alternative to SmackDown.--Jonathan Winter

Manufacturer's Description
Legends of Wrestling brings 30 of pro wrestling's all-time best out of retirement and back into the ring. You play as Bret "The Hitman" Hart, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, George "The Animal" Steele, and more. You can also create your own wrestler or build a team of wrestlers.

Gameplay features 12 bone-crushing match types, ranging from the ladder to six and eight-man elimination bouts. Single and tag-team career mode take you to arenas across the US and all over the world. Throughout, you can link moves together to create near-lethal combos. Special guest referees are on the lookout all the while.

Legends of Wrestling's TV-style broadcast uses new camera angles and cutscenes. In-depth match analysis and career guidance comes from Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Captain Lou Albano. Interactive wrestler entrances, complete with crowd responses and grappler taunts, heighten the realism. And if you want to go super pro, use the Create-a-Stencil feature to add logos and text to the ring attire of your favourite legends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed By Other Wrestling Titles?, 7 May 2002
By A Customer
Ever Been Let Down By The Big Hype & Excitement of Previous Wrestling Titles? Ever Thought The Games Had A lot Of Potential, But Never Carried It Off Properly? This Game Will Be A Health Relief To You Then! The Game Provides Everything It claims!

It Also Brings You Back To The Roots Of All Your Favourite Wrestling Superstars, Past & Present. Giving You Access To Superstars Like RVD, Hulk Hogan, Sabu, One Man Gang, and The Superfly Jimmy Snuka. The Game Engine Allows You To Do A Large Range Of Combinations, Each Independent To Its Wrestler.

The Main Base Of The Game Is The Career Mode, Where You Bring Your Wrestler Up From The Small World, Fighting in Small Remote Venues, Upto Massive Stadiums, in Events As Big As Wrestlemania.

Little Else Can Be Said About This Game Because It Really Does Speak For Itself!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Legends Of Wrestling Disappointment, 29 Jun 2002
This game had the potential to be a great wrestling game, but it turned out to be a disapointment. There aren't enough matches to do, no backstage brawling, all the wrestlers look like plastic figures and the creata wrestler feature is rubbish because you can only choose ONE face, not enough hair styles, a selection of a few colours without tints and shades, no text and not enough costumes. One of the main things that I don't like about the game that it isn't authentic in the way of proper official entrance themes, commentry and wrestlers actions e.g. The Million Dollar Man going on about money. Another thing that I hate about the game is the lack of moves when creating a wrestler i.e. when you chose the "Head between legs" position you can only pick mainly piledrivers and powerbombs. On the gameplay itself it can be fun for a short time. A proper tag-team tournament where 2 players can go for the titles is needed.

A proper realistic 30-man Royal Rumble mode where you can ONLY be eliminated by going over the top rope not underneath it would be ace.

I think that most people will ONLY win the main championship title and maybe the tag titles then be totally sick of the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars legends of wrestling review, 9 May 2002
By A Customer
legends of wrestling is one of my favourite games. The wrestlers are great like hollywood hulk hogan and RVD plus lots of other great legends. But there are two things I dont like about it and that is the selection of matches and the graphics.there is only a couple of matches like single and tag team. The other problem is the poor graphics and I think they could have made it better. But it has a great create a legend mode where you can design your own legend and if you want you can name it after yourself. It also has a career mode where you can guide your legend to the top and win the championship belt.I've got this game and my favourite thing is smashing the ref over the head with a guitar.well thats all the time i've got just now.see you later.
