4.0 out of 5 stars HOLIDAY HELL, 15 Aug 2002
By A Customer
ECW-Holiday Hell 95 took place on December 29th 1995 in New- York.It starts with Taz destroying Koji Nakagawa easily in an OK
little match.Mikey Whipwreck challenges 2 Cold Scorpio for both the TV and Tag Titles in a 4 or maybe 5 star match. There is a few cr** matches like Bubba Ray VS Blue Meanie and Pitbulls VS Eliminators.JT Smith VS Hack Meyers is OK.Raven VS Tommy Dreamer is a brutal match with quite a bit of blood and weapons. However,
Sandman VS Raven is disappointing but fairly violent. There is also a rubbish match between El Peurto Ricano and Bruiser Mastino.
The best match on this DVD is Cactus Jack VS Sabu. This is a hardcore war and is not as bad as people make out. They use chairs
tables and everything else within their reach. There is some great
spots by both men especially Sabu who was on top form.He does a
great somersault arabian facebuster near the end of the match.

3.0 out of 5 stars Real hell from Holiday Hell, 21 Feb 2002
Some reviews have stated that this was a major turning point for ECW - I don't see why though - the major turning point for ECW was NTR 95', with some good matches and all the major angels coming in to play. Things start off badly, as the freshly heel turned Taz takes on japanese import Koji Nokigawa. In what would become the usual for Taz over the years, he squashes the newcomer with all hsi suplexes and gets the tazmission for the win. NEXT! Then it's J.T. Smith vs. Hack Meyers. It's an OK, battle, but the ending seems a little rushed - as J.T. hurts himself legit on a blown moonsault. Following on from that bout, the Tag & TV titles are up for grabs as 2 Cold Scorpio faces mikey Whipwreck. A spotty encounter, if not a decent one. The Pitbulls then face The Eliminators, in what would only be their second match in a series of about 600000000. Then, in another of the battles that may have numbered 6000000, Rvaen faces Tommy Dreamer, with the winner getting a title shot at Sandman later on. What a boring brawl this was. Jobber nobody Bruiser Mastino then fights Pablo Marquez in a MAJOR squash. Then, in an incredibly ugly match, Buh Buh Ray Dudley beats The Blue Meanie in under a minute. Dumb. There is how very funny Stevie Richards stuff here though, so it's not a total waste. The Sandman then faces Raven in the title match. I don't know why these two were booked against each other so much, cos' all their matches SUCKED. This is no exception. Moving on, Public Enemy faces The Ganstaz in the standard ECW brawl. I'm getting pretty tired of these. The finally, in the main event, Cactus Jack faces Sabu. The comedy in this match is priceless, but the match, as a match and everyhting, is worth ***. Maybe that's a little generous.
Overall, this show is a very good representative of the old ECW - an ECW where there were plenty of squashes, quick matches and garbagy brawls. Perhaps I'm overrating the show with 3 stars, and it deserves 2 stars or less. Whatever, this show is definetly try before you buy. And also, I definetly do not recommend this show to first time ECW viewers.

3.0 out of 5 stars ECW Holiday Hell, 30 Oct 2007
Holiday Hell was the much-hyped debut of ECW in NYC, and was held in Queens, NY, on 29/12/95. The matches are as follows:
Taz vs Koji Nakagawa - A typical Taz squash from the early days of the shoot fight gimmick. Preety typical stuff, some nice mat wrestling, some sick suplexes, but nothing special.
Hack Myers vs JT Smith - This was basically a comedy match, as an entertaining serious wrestling match was never on the cards with these two. Short and watchable.
Too Cold Scorpio vs Mikey Whipwreck - A nice wrestling match, but one that is mostly one-sided and as a result never really makes into second gear. A suprise ending is a little ridiculous, but that is the way things were done in ECW at that time.
The PitBulls vs The Eliminators - An odd tag team match that starts in the ring, then goes outside for some hardcore, and then goes back inside and continues as though the hardcore portion of the match never happened. There are some nice spots from The Eliminators, and some sloppy ones from The Pitbulls. Decent, but should have been cut a couple of minutes short.
Raven vs Tommy Dreamer - A solid match that manages to combine hardcore with humour. If there was a problem with this rivalry it was that there were so many matches over such a long period of time that it was difficult to make them feel distinctive and important. A good fun match though.
Bruiser Mastino vs El Puerto Ricano - Why would Paul Heyman invite Mantaur to ECW? There really is no excuse for matches like this on what is supposed to be a major show. A squash.
The Blue Meanie vs Buh Buh Ray Dudley - Very short and not very sweet. Ugly match.
Sandman vs Raven - Like most Sandman matches, this was low on athletic ability and lower on wrestling skill, but still oddly compelling. Watchable, even if it isn't exactly thrilling.
Public Enemy vs Gangsters - Like a lot of Hardcore matches in the early days of ECW, this one was so high on wapons and blood, that it quickly becomes numbing and the match degenerates into a boring mess. Very violent, very dull.
Cactus Jack vs Sabu - Jack cuts a solid pre-match promo during which he suggests that the match should be contested under olympic rules. The performers get some good humour out of this at first, until Joey Styles continues the joke ten minutes into the match. Some good hardcore action in this one with some nice spots. Sabu/Cactus Jack matches never did manage to live up to the hype, but a solid match all the same.
So this was a mixture of good and bad wrestling, but it ignores the fact that the MVP of the night was Stevie Richards, who made several appearances in front of the microphone and always proves entertaining. On the whole, Holiday Hell was a decent show, but by no means essential. For collectors only.
