Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Embrace's early comparisons to Oasis now seem hopelessly optimistic and Fireworks, their collection of singles to date, seems to be an attempt to draw a line under this period and start afresh. Judging by the newer songs here, such as the gorgeously delicate "Wonder", they've already started this process, shifting focus away from the band--who have always been oddly bland and forgettable--and onto the songs. Like James, Embrace are a group that have released some cracking songs that you always attributed to someone else. From the Britpop inflected "All You Good Good People" to the playful kazoo and Beta Band shuffle of "Hooligan", the McNamara Brothers certainly know how to write an incandescent melody and, aside from the woeful misadventure of their "Three Is A Magic Number" cover, it's hard to find fault with what's here. Whether a singles collection is really an admission to the turgid dross of their album fillers remains unclear, and these aren't songs that are going to change the world, but they provide a pleasing backdrop to the world ticking on. --Ben Johncock

CD Description
Singles compilation from the Huddersfield post-Brit Pop band who became a chart act in 1997. Their sound has often beencompared to their predecessors Oasis and The Verve. The singles 'All You Good Good People', 'Come Back To What You Know', and 'My Weakness Is None Of Your Business' were all top ten singles in the UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs,bad concept., 24 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Rewind about four years ago,to a time where six of the songs featured here come from and life was a lot different for Danny Mcnamara and Embrace. They emerged from Huddesfield, all guns blazing and told anyone who would listen that they were the best band in the world. And listening to the songs, "..Good Good People", "Fireworks" and the best song to end a gig with ever "The Good Will Out" they might just have had a point. Half A Million record sales, top ten singles and regular visits to Top of The Pops later and life looked good.Next stop... The World. But then, if not artistically, it certainly went comercially pear shaped for the band. The follow up, Drawn from Memory appeared in March 2000, preceded by the single "Hooligan" in late 1999.A confident and brave first single, with its infamous Kazoo solo it marked the start of the bands slump in record sales. Its Not that the songs from the second album aren't any cop,(if anything they surpass much of their debut)its just for some reason the public weren't taking the bait anymore. It was a trend that was to continue with their third album "If You've never been". "Wonder" did manage number 14 in july 2001,but only one more single was pulled off the album.Lack of interest from the record company? it certainly looks like it with the release of this "Greatest Hits" collection. Its a shame because Embrace are a band who deserve a lot more respect. So then if you are one of them casual fans buy this record and see what you've missed. But as a concept it stinks, there's nothing on offer for the fans who have been with the band since 1997, except a new version of 3 is a magic number, which in all fairness is absolutely dire, an old b-side pointlessly re-recorded.As a band they shine, but somehow they're still managing to get lost in the dark as far as the general public are concerned.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing collection of songs from an underrated band, 5 Feb 2002
Fireworks is a fantastic collection of songs from the most underrated band of the last five years. Look out for the slow burning classic 'wonder' from their last studio album, and the live favourite '3 is a magic number'. 'All you good good people' is a timeless anthem to suitably kick off the collection.
The album is a chance for fans to reminice on some great tracks and for new listeners to sample the magic that embrace posess.

4.0 out of 5 stars Embrace a quality cd!!, 20 Aug 2004
By A Customer
These guys have to be one of the most underrated bands out there.Even though they hail from Brighouse,West Yorkshire, where i am currently, there are some mighty fine tunes to be heard on this album. My particular fave has to be "come back to what you know".A real anthem and one of several to be gleaned from this release.May have been overshadowed by acts such as Oasis and The verve but i strongly recommend this if you are a fan of the aforementioned bands. You will not be disappointed!!!
