Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Iron Aces 2 starts off as a WWII combat flight simulation. Since the missile did not exist at that time, pilots were forced to lock into deadly, close-quarters combat. Using tactical maneuvers, pilots flew within 400m of the enemy and fired with heavy machine guns. As you progress through the game you will travel through the history of combat aviation. The numerous missions are based with conflicts involving land, sea and air campaigns.

Iron Aces 2 is broken into Campaigns and Missions. There are more than 35 missions that must be completed in order to finish the game. As you successfully complete each campaign you are advanced to a new mission as well as a new era. What gives this game an added dimension is the Free Battle Mode. This section of the game allows for the choice of opposing aircraft regardless of the era from which it originates. No other combat flight simulator currently available for PlayStation 2 allows you to fly, say, an FA18 Hornet against a P51 Mustang in air-to-air combat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Huge Potential . . . shot down in flames, 19 Jun 2002

As an idea the format of flying throught the ages from the Spitfirs and Stukas of WWII to the modern day jet fighters chasing Tomahawk Cruise missiles down canyons at low leves sounds fun.

However the gameplay is short (I completed the campaign in less than 5 hours), the hardest mission comes early into the game in a SpitFire vs. ME109 dogfight when you are vastly outnumbered. It is a shame that the distance of combat means the graphics of the aircraft are minimal, though the ground and sky detail is good.

A better format may have been to follow the PC flight Sim of Flying Corps Gold, this was a great opportunity missed.

Overall I would say one to hire not buy . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 5 Jan 2004
This game is brilliant. The graphics are very good but could be a little bit better. I like the way you go through a timeline of aviation. I feel that there arn't enough missions but each mission is different, which helps the game a lot. The game has up to date planes and older planes which makes it very exciting. This game is worth getting.

1.0 out of 5 stars This game will turn your PS into a Amiga!!!!!!??!, 21 Oct 2003
Perhaps I am doing the Amiga computer a dis service. Anyway I was HUGELY dissapointed with this game. Alright so it lets you fly WW2 aircraft but the graphics.... or lack of. The aircraft themselves do not handle much like real aircraft and the views are dissapointing to the extreme. I played my copy once then put it up for sale. Leave this one alone and buy Ace Combat 4 THE best combat flight sim on the PS2 (or anywhere else)
