4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad!, 14 Jan 2003
By Elaine (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is a good game, but the controls are a little frustrating and take a while to get used to. Slashing the warriors is fun and gruelling! It's a battle of wills and a tug of war to top up your power. Difficult to get past the monster with the big axe, have tried loads of times, but still manage to get chopped up! It's a little slow at first, but becomes addictive and leaves you wanting to go back for more. I got this game free when I bought my xbox and thought it would be rubbish, but it's turned out to be a good bet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Linear, Cut Scene, Hack n Slash, 25 Mar 2002
The first few minutes of the game where taken up by a movie that adds a little background information. Looks lovely, but I found myself wishing that we could just get on with the action. The voice dubbing of the characters is at times noticably bad, and some of the english translation a bit...well...clumsy...the reason that I comment is because the game quite regularly breaks out in to video sequences, and all suffer in the same way...when you finally get to play the game, the controls seem a bit clumsy and were definitely not designed to take advantage of the xbox controler...the movement ones in particular are bad...you get used to them, but there is nothing intuitive about it - unlike games such as oddworld or halo. I've never really played pre-cut scene games before, and was rather hoping for a game more like diablo for instance. The deal is, you have a nice graphical backdrop and you steer your character around it...it doesn't really feel like your character is *part* of the environment...the fighting is a bit clumsy, very few moves, so most fights are just about you hitting the fire button, and hitting it again, and again...the monsters are very, very hard...there're lots of them, so I found I was always on the verge of death but not in an interesting or challanging way, further more, there is no sophisticated AI to outwit...the magical effects you collect are very costly to use in terms of energy, so I found that I was hardly ever able to use them, and when I did, they didn't *do* all that much damage so were a bit of a let down...you can hold your finger on the fire button for longer to build up a magical attack on your sword - it looks nice, but doesn't seem to make your hit any more potent...there is no intelligent placement of creatures...most appear randomly when you enter a room...if you leave the room and return the creatures will have vanished and a new set will be created...so there's no feeling of reality or continuity. In some rooms, because its a pre-cut scene you can find yourself being attacked by something you can't see...because its in another scene...and you can also find that you can't see your own character at all...because the monster is 'closer' to the screen, and so, because of the perspective, totally conceals your character...there *are* some good aspects to the game...its quite a fun, imaginitive, comic book style story and you get clues all the way through about what actually is going on...the're enough puzzles and they're easy enough to make it interesting, but not so much that they get in the way of the 'action' game play...there's loads of stuff to pick up and use...overall, I'll play it because I bought it - but I wish I hadn't spent 45 quid on it...it looks nice but it lacks any depth, has no polished bits and I was playing better on my amiga 10 years ago...when I finish it, there's nothing that will make we want to play it ever again...

5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil meets Legacy of Kain, 3 Mar 2004
By Ibrahim "Devil Horns" (south of heaven) - See all my reviews
This game has a distinct resident evil feel but lets you control the game in a much more hack'n'slash way (Legacy of Kain) as opposed to stratigic saves and health boosts (resident evil).
The game is a very enjoyable blend and vert atmospheric, if you want a game with lots of charm and tension this is for you, if you want full on brain teasers like resi look elsewhere, if you can't fight you can't progress.
Finally I must say that £35 is a rip-off, buy this game...just not from amazon.co.uk

A enough game. Pre-Rendered backgrounds shouldn't be needed for an Xbox game though. Character design is really well done and the music is excellent. Read more
