4.0 out of 5 stars time for recognition, 5 Jul 2006
this band are highly unsung heroes it seems outside Canada and the States, though i've no evidence they've tried to penetrate the music scene anywhere else so maybe it's their own fault. anyway whether they like it or not it's about time the world new about Sianspheric. labels are tiresome but hopefully psych/post rock/indie/ambient will be a good start - if you wnat band names then early Verve, the very best laid-back ambient Floyd, My Bloody Valentine on mogadon, with a bit of SOnic Youth thrown in. this album, their 3rd full-length studio release, continues the theme of drawn out soundscapes, which fluctuate between extreme mellowness and outright white-noise walls of sound. my only quibble is that on one track this happens mid song, which can shake one out of a blissed out state somewhat abruptly - however this occasional tendency of the band to want to disturb is something worth living with. there's still an emotional depth to this band which others, notably Mogwai, completely fail in my opinion to find.
