Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Okay, so the title Electro Breakdance may be a bit misleading but "Predominantly classic hip-hop from back in the day" doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Spread across two discs, the diverse range includes a few pieces of electro pop like the stuttering "19" from 80s synth god come BBC soundtrack maker Paul Hardcastle and the oft imitated (Chak, Chak) Chaka Khan with "I Feel For You". Present and correct are the classics which started this particular revival fad like "The Message" and "White Lines" plus other genre defining moments like "Planet Rock" and "The 900 Number".

Moving through the ages, there's plenty from the next school of Hip-hop (pre-west coast) pioneers like Eric B & Rakim ("Paid in Full"), Run DMC ("Peter Piper") and Public Enemy ("Don't Believe the Hype") along with the happier, more party inspired cuts like the infamous drum/scream loop of "It Takes Two" and the daisy blossoming "Say No Go" from political hippies, De La Soul. A great collection of thirty classic songs from a golden decade which will get your body popping, your heels thumping and make you want to throw two fingers in the air and shout "Peace" while wearing a lovely nylon tracksuit. --David Trueman

2.0 out of 5 stars Pants-droppin', definately not body-poppin', 19 Mar 2002
I agree with a lot of the reviews here that this album does NOT live up to it's title. As an old skool electro-boppin', head-spinnin' (got the bald patch to go) freak I can safely say: go get yourself a turntable and listen to some Crucial Electro on Streetsounds - now that's TRUE ELECTRO!! Buy this album if you have no conscience...

5.0 out of 5 stars What a compilation, 6 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Wow, what a wicked double CD, after years of waiting for someone to put together a collection of electro on CD now we've got one. If you haven't managed to find 'Rockit' then this is for you.
There are some real classics here like Cybotron's 'Clear' and Tyrone Brunson's ' The Smurf' along with the more commercial stuff like The Rock Steady Crew and Breakmachine (1st time on CD??)
Grab this disc and you'll soon be attempting that back spin on your kitchen's Lino flooring!!!
