Here is a great selection of Bach pieces transcribed for guitar. Many of the works are rarely played on guitar, however Voorhorst makes them truly sing in his interpretations. Despite a slightly rough recording, and slightly loud string noise (something which must be tolerated, as we do on older recordings by virtuosos), this cd is a classic! Myself and many friends agree that this is one of the best examples of how Bach should be played on the guitar. The way the arpeggios wind around, alongside expressive dynamics and tonality, is really is serene. Especailly at Naxos price, this cd is a must!

This album is especialy desirable because the transcriptions are made by Mr. Voorhorst, and most of the selections are not found on other recordings of the music of Bach played on guitar. In my opinion, the Ramirez guitar on this cd sounds very good indeed!, and I believe it is a wonderfull work that will be very much enjoyed.

This is an interesting Bach programme, which promises more than it delivers. Recorded in 1996, one must ask why the delay in producing the cd? Perhaps it has something to do with the dubious intonation of the Ramirez guitar which Mr. Voorhorst struggles to maintain. This is all the more frustrating,as the playing itself is of a fair standard considering the technical challenges in many of the pieces. The Marcello concerto performed on solo guitar is quite an achievement & Enno Voorhorst brings it off, especially in the final movement. Similarly other pieces are played with fine phrasing - the adagio of the g minor sonata for instance; however for whatever reasons the guitar sound lets this production down.
