3.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre!, 27 Sep 2002
Some soundtracks are really just a visual thing. TRON is the perfect example. Why? There are two types of melody on here- the awwww squiggly squiggly kind when they jump on those light cycles(or the more dramatic scenes) with the BOOM! BOOM! trumpets and classical strings, sounding like it was conducted by a composer with serious constipation and a child whose just had a new Yamaha keyboard for Christmas, and the der-der-der-der-der-der laid back melodies, taking forms in various tracks, the same feakin' melodies repeated, but still nice nonetheless (listen closely and you might even hear a Warp records Boards of Canada/ Aphex Twin influence!). It's not exactly a classic like the BLADERUNNER OST by Vangelis (I compare the two as both are sci-fi released at roughly the same time that use synthesisers) which is a great album in it's own right, but in terms of the nostalgia element- anyone who remembers Vic 20s, Betamax videos Speak n' Spells and Kenner Star Wars figures who purchase this album, will be entering a time warp to their childhood (and better days). Which of course is a compliment. Oh, and don't forget there are two ROCK! tracks by a band called Journey (probably German) included here just to build up the cheeseometer, which judging by the rest of the album is already off the scale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Activate the Time Machine..., 19 Aug 2006
By Ian C. Smith "ghost of '82" (West Midlands, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
...and return to 1982, a fantastic year for sci-fi movies and soundtracks. The year of Blade Runner, The Thing, Mad Max 2, ET, Star Trek 2... and yes, Tron. All these films had great, varied music. Tron's music has dated compared to, say, the Blade Runner score, but that's no doubt part of it's charm, and indeed this score is really unique, I don't think any other soundtrack sounds quite like this gem. Not exactly easy listening, but it does have one of the most gorgeous love-themes ever heard in movies. Unavailable for many years, this CD remaster was a dream come true for me. Listening to it takes me back to simpler times.
