As an all-powerful dictator, you'll manipulate resources to create your own thriving Caribbean paradise while lining your personal Swiss bank account. The Tropico: Paradise Island expansion pack features several new scenarios, people, vehicles and buildings for you to increase the clout of el Presidente and intensify his lust for power.

The main focus of the expansion pack is that you will have to counteract the most unpredictable force imaginable, no not politics, but mother nature. Players have to deal with the disastrous effects of tropical weather in the form of hurricanes, tropical storms and red tide. Such disasters can translate into both economic and human losses. Fragile buildings crumble, including homes, docks and bunkhouses. Crops are lost and morale decreases. As el Presidente, you have to restore the island's beauty and the people's faith in you.

There are about 20 new scenarios, including a Gilligan's Island spoof (which doesn't really mean a lot to non-US players), but there are also other tourism scenarios and military challenges. There is a lot of new stuff in this expansion pack and fans of the original will find more than enough for several hours more gameplay.-Simon Fisher

I really liked this add-on - it does exactly what it is supposed to do, that is adding more features to the original game.

OK, you don't have many new characters ( only 2 more types of tourists ) but:

- you have now a lot of pre-designed scenarios, with different degrees of difficulty, and the ones I tried up to now are very nice ! one for all, " BACK TO THE SKIES ": you and few tropicans landed with your plane on a desert island, and you have only 20 years to build an airport and bring everybody home

- building is much faster than before, and you have many more buildings available ( military bases, dungeons, tourists attractions )

- many more edicts are now available ( social security edict is powerful if used before elections, remember ! )

So finally I recommend this add-on - especially if you like playing with tourism or military games - and I keep waiting for the future ones. It's a great strategy game, full of humour as no other I ever saw up to now.

Paradise island is a great add on. There is a new feature called random effects, which is a great feature. This helps prevent the problem with the game getting boring, because something new can happen, storms, price changes etc. If You loved Tropico then buy this, if you thought it was funny, think a little about it, the games are very alike.

POP TOP said Paradise Island would be loads of new buildings and people! What we got was rubish! Paradise Island added only a few neww buildings which you will never use. The new people are just the same old tourists with a new hat and t-shirt! Pop Tops Paradise Island is one to leave for the udst to settle on!
