Julia Russel (Angelina Jolie) can show a man passion unlike any he's ever known. He'll risk anything to be near her. When Luis (Antonia Banderas) takes Julia as his wife, he thinks his life is complete.
But people are not always who they appear to be, and Luis's life begins to take a turn. When Julia disappears with his money, Luis is forced to look into her past - a past that doesn't seem to even exist - and finds that the woman he loves has been accused of a rbutal murder. Sex and love turn to rage and revenge and Luis tries to find his wife - but only to find he has to play her at her own deadly game.
Original Sin is a very steamy movie featuring Aneglina Jolie, and Antonia Banderas. It's an 18 rating, and is very sexually explicit - so not really one to watch with your parents, unless you want a massive cringe factor.
However, the film is fantastic, and very clever with a bit of a twist at the end - i won't spoil it for you though. A must buy for any Jolie or Banderas fan.

An American film which tries not to be so wholesome, but ultimately it becomes less unsure of itself, until it eventually decides to play to the emotionally illiterate gallery.

A film concerned about the differences between love and lust. The first moments are all focused upon the latter until the emotional bonds form. Whilst locked into a particular focus it explores and captures the emotional brutality, as in the lack of empathy arising from being from an orphanage in this era. Following an ascent into adulthood the obvious trade is to drift into what has been inculcated so the sexual lure becomes the choice profession - clipping. However even for the most thorough of scams often emotions get in the way of the brutal style of life. You are not sure where these have arisen from. The coffee grower who presumably could have had anyone plumps for an American dating photo and takes his chance.

Originally it is all entwined in knots, but these begin to unravel throughout the film as love conquers all. Possessions mean nothing when you meet the right person, they can easily be surrendered. Likewise the life of being street tough no longer holds the full appeal, but the sense of carnality as Angelina plays a schizo street sex worker always pulls her back. The film does have both sensual and brutal moments.

Angelina expresses an emotional vocab in the film and Banderas has the wild looks of passion turning into a lost little boy the next, the right ingredients are there to make it work.

My problem was with the script, why oh why oh why do they always have to do that. Watch it and see, it is certainly not the worst film, but it is no life changer neither.

Just a clarification to buyers.... The "Uncensored Dutch Version" looks like the standard US 'R' release. It is not the "Unrated" version, which is 2 minutes longer.

Condidering that this film features two of Hollywood's most well known faces (Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas), it was massively overlooked during its UK cinema release in September 2001. This was probably not helped by the fact that it was released during the week of the WTC attacks, but also by heavy, unfair criticism from most reviewers. Many critics could only find one good point - Angelina Jolie nude. Of course, for the less shallow amongst us, there are other good points.
Although Original Sin is classed as an erotic drama, it in fact only contains one sex scene which is very tastefully shot and is a vital part of the storyline. The rest of the film is a highly watchable story about a coffee tycoon who falls in love with his mail order bride which affects both their lives forever. The acting is superb as is the direction and production. The film-makers have really perfected their craft since their last Jolie collaboration, Gia.
Obviously, it will be Jolie and Banderas fans who will most want this DVD (at least, if they know it is out they will - the promotion has been awful) but you could do a lot worse if you are looking for a decent saturday night movie.
Don't expect a Friday night Channel Five movie - I really don't understand why it is classed as erotic drama. Also, you are only buying this disc for the film as extras are more or less non-existant. Instead, this is an intelligent, grown-up movie which is highly watchable and should have been a bigger success.
Give it a try!

This film was amazing, it had me hanging off the side of my seat! Unlike other films, i had no idea what would come next, it was a truly original film. Angelina Jolie and Antonio are an unlikely pair, but they work well and fit together nicely.
This film is very sexually explicit, but it clearly shows life from annother side of the wall thats full of sex, drugs and violence. The director projects the contrast amazingly. It makes a change from pretty girls and hansome boys chasing after eachother.
This film is about how women can capture a mans heart and make them die for her, no matter what he past and how much money she steals from him!

The title is a misnomer. It has nothing to do with `original sin' - a Christian concept that contorts the thoughts of many. Instead, this is a film about love, in many guises. It is also a visually sumptuous film, with some richly textured scenes. Ensure to select the unrated version. Her first words evoke the extremes of love; "the power to heal, the power to destroy". This is how the film proceeds. It is about deception. At one point the central male character is discussing love and lust with his best friend. "What's the difference" he asks. "Love is giving; lust is taking" comes the concise answer. Ultimately and to cite another piece of dialogue; "it's about those who give into love and the price they pay". This reviewer has recently had to pay...
