Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It's probably for the best that Peter Cushing has already popped his clogs, because he really wouldn't like Blood Omen 2. Not only do you play the bad guy, but the vampires in the Legacy of Kain series are more likely to talk you to death than get around to chewing on your jugular. Blood Omen 2 is a sequel to the okay-ish original, whose greatest claim to worthiness is that it spawned two much higher quality spin-offs, in the form of Soul Reavers One and Two. The original Blood Omen was a top-down, 2-D, vaguely Zelda-esque action RPG that sold pretty much on the fact that you were the baddie and could run around drinking innocent people's vital fluids. This new game has the same concept but because everything's now in 3-D it comes across as nothing more than a poor man's Soul Reaver 2. Despite the fact that there's just as much combat in this game as Soul Reaver you're saddled with a very sluggish control system and the puzzles have been made much less interesting--90% of them involve pulling switches. The game is also incredibly linear and the graphics, although quite detailed in places, really don't show off the power of the Xbox.

Although it's the first Legacy of Kain title on the Xbox it's hard to not recommend that you just play Soul Reaver 2 on a mate's PS2 instead. If you really can't do without a bit of 3-D Xbox vampire fun, Buffy the Vampire Slayer looks a much better bet. -- David Jenkins

2.0 out of 5 stars Blood Omen 2: The Legacy of Kain Series, 12 April 2002
By Paul Clarke (Barnsley, England) - See all my reviews
This game on first impressions is a little like Tomb Raider, however soon you realise that its a lot darker in its mood but unfortunatley quite linear. Graphically it is very good with great lighting and fantastic fog/mist effects as your character performs his vampiristic powers.
If you are a fan of the previous Legacy of Kain games then there will be few surprises here, if like me you've not played any of the previous games diligently then the game will hold your attention for quite a while. To summarise my review, Blood Omen 2 is a reasonably enjoyable, graphically pleasing 3rd person adventure, unfortunately once you've played it for a while it soon becomes apparent that its pretty linear. Its unlikely to be a game that you will come back to once completed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cindy and scott are newly weds - whoopy do!, 15 April 2002
By A Customer
I had this game sold me by a friend - he is no longer my friend.
The graphics are average considering it is an xbox game - the gameplay is nothing new or interesting and the lastability sucks.
I know i have given it three stars but that is for the one sound effects which reminds me of a light sabre.
Aoid like a plague - a dark plague on both your houses.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT GOOD!, 5 Jan 2004
Please, please, under no circumstances, make the mistake I did (“it’s only X quid, it can’t be that bad”). This game is atrocious, linear doesn’t even begin to describe the type of game play that this title delivers, not to mention, poor clipping graphics (“oh, the graphics, my god, the graphics!”) blood that doesn’t seem to be coming out of the victims bodies let alone going into Kain’s mouth, and enemies that, for all the fight they put up, may as well not be there.

I only got a few levels in on this game and just couldn’t bear to continue any longer (I had to put Splinter Cell on for a few days just to get over it!). Why do games developers, knowing the capabilities of the platforms their products are being produced for, continue to create this type of tripe (Obi-Wan also springs to mind). There should be some type of quality control at Microsoft or whichever console company these games are made for, that says “No, I’m sorry, but it’s crap” instead it’s us, the customers who end up feeling robbed, and I’m sorry, but you people who have given this game any type of good rating don’t have a clue.
Not one single thing about this title is good and I would have been absolutely livid if I had paid full price (it was bad enough paying what I did). The only purpose this game has served is supplying me an empty box for my Sega GT2002/Jet Set Radio free disc I got with my Xbox. Kain now resides in an empty CD case I gave to my cousin.
