Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Relive the experience of the Winter Olympic 2002 Games in Salt Lake City with the fun-packed title Salt Lake Winter Olympics 2002 from Eidos.

Based around six events from the winter games; Men's Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom, Men's Alpine Skiing downhill, Ladies' Alpine Skiing Slalom, Women's freestyle Skiing Aerials, Men's Ski Jumping K120 Individual and Men's Two-man Bobsleighing there is plenty for you to get into.

Following on in a similar formula to Eidos' Sydney Olympics 2000 you can rally for medals or merely practise your racing with the options of tournament, Classic, Olympic and freeform available to you.

This game is not for everyone and if you liked Eidos' attempt at the Sydney Olympics then this will be like the add-on you never got, but with only six different events, some of which are very short, this game can come across as more of a console title than a game for the PC and those of you looking for something that will give you hours and hours of enjoyment might find this a bit lacking in longevity.--Jason Denwood

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!, 25 Jan 2002

After playing alot of the 'run of the mill' snowboarding clones, this was a refreshing change.

With many different events to choose from, you are continually faced with different challenges from the fun simple button bashing type, to the hi-speed race feel that the downhill skiing events offers.

The graphics are amazing with the most realistic environments I've seen so far, I believe they use a new technique dubbed the 'Lindsey Strip' to produce the landscapes on PC.

I know that olympics games are not everyones cup of tea, but this is probably the best of the genre I've played.

4.0 out of 5 stars Top Sports Fun, 15 Feb 2002
By A Customer
I love sports sims and I bought this game on a whim. Overall I think it's great and there's certainly a lot hidden depth there that other sports games don't have. That goes for single player and multiplayer modes. The game looks great too and having watched some of the downhill on the TV I'm staggered by the attention to detail in the game. Hats off to the developers for caring this much about a game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Designed to perfection, 19 Sep 2003
If you've ever dreamed of what it would be like to compete in a Winter Olympic games then this is without doubt the game for you. The visuals are simply stunning reaching a level of visual clarity never before seen in a multisports title. The male athletes look stunning and the female athletes look nearly female, unlike the prior game Sydney 2000 that included High Jumpers who's gender was highly questionable and who were very, very ugly.

But ignore all the gloss and talk of 'Lindsey Strips', which are only really a rehash of the earlier 'Eames Gradiator', where this game really shines is in the design.

You really have to take your hats of to the people responsible for creating the underlying game play and dynamics that are resplendent throughout this masterpiece. From the skilful placement of gates to the simple yet challenging dynamics of the ski jump to the amazing commentary. This must surely be classed as a design masterpiece. And if you're in any doubt as to the level of design thought and detail included in this game simply enter your name in as "Doctor Who" and have a look in the "Trophy Room" for an excellently designed and programmed Easter Egg.

In summary this game is lot's of fun for everyone and must surely be classed as a modern day big yellow teapot.
