Amazon.co.uk Review
It's probably for the best that Peter Cushing has already popped his clogs, because he really wouldn't like Blood Omen 2. Not only do you play the bad guy, but the vampires in the Legacy of Kain series are more likely to talk you to death than get around to chewing on your jugular. Blood Omen 2 is a sequel to the okay-ish original, whose greatest claim to worthiness is that it spawned two much higher quality spin-offs, in the form of Soul Reavers One and Two.

The original Blood Omen was a top-down, 2-D, vaguely Zelda-esque action RPG that sold pretty much on the fact that you were the baddie and could run around drinking innocent people's vital fluids. This new game has the same concept, but because everything's now in 3-D, it comes across as nothing more than a poor man's Soul Reaver 2. Despite the fact that there's just as much combat in this game as Soul Reaver, you're saddled with a very sluggish control system and the puzzles have been made much less interesting--90% of them involve pulling switches. The game is also incredibly linear and the graphics, although quite detailed in places, suffer from some of the worst slowdown ever seen on the PS2.

In short, if you're a fan of the Legacy of Kain series buy Soul Reaver 2 instead. If you can take or leave all the vampire nonsense then Ico or Jak & Daxter are much better entries in the hall of 3D adventuring fame. --David Jenkins

Product Description
In Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 you are the vampire Kain, the most evil figure ever to appear in a video game. You will move through crowds unseen cloaked in stealth, travel stories above the peasant herds on which you feed, leaping from roof-top to roof-top, and use mind-control to overcome vampire-proof inventions. The combat choreography unfolds with dance-like precision as Kain engages armies of demons and humans alike. The comprehensive menu of unstoppable attacks, nimble combos and special moves are designed to appeal to even the most jaded of fighting game fans. The world that Kain moves through is a lushly detailed gothic environment that is not only gorgeous to the eye, but also alive with the soon-to-be dead. The AI behavioural response makes peasants and enemies variously flee, take up arms or remain unaware as Kain moves through crowds or charges, sword raised, into open areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Might look better, but 5 stars are doubtless, 10 April 2002
A really grasping game which you will not be able to tear yourself from till your eyes start to hurt. The graphics might be better on the PC, but since it's originally not a PC game, what we have is more than enough. Highly recommended for those who found Soul Reaver 2 to their liking and would like to play a similar game, but with a different approach to the process -- i.e. with no running to and fro within a limited location (however big it may be), but instead with exciting fights on your straight way forward. Some people call such straightforwardness a fault, but in case with BO2 you'll surely enjoy it.

The game may be less original than Soul Reaver 2, but is by no means less interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Kain is back and he's badder than ever, 28 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Tired of the Raziel's (soul reaver 1 & 2) Paranoia and time travelling antics? Well this is the game for you. Again you play Kain, the anti-hero.
He's back with a host of new vampiric powers to strike down the Serefan who have toppled him and defeated his army. Now Kain must work with the Vampire resistance, Cabal, to rid th land of the fascist Serefan priesthood and their strange Glyph Magic.
The graphics are exceent as would be expected based on the Soul Reaver titles and like wise the combat system is eloquent and easy to use. Kain can use powers to disguise himself and must feed on the blood of the humans to survive. the only problem is the lack of save points, but the excellent gameplay will keep you coming back for more. This is a massive game and fans of third person action/adventure games should own this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kain gets a starring role!, 27 Mar 2002
In blood omen 2 you assume the mantle of the newly awakened Kain. Set some 400 years after the original and 1400 years before soul reaver, the focus is on Kain and his new 'friends'. After being defeated in battle by a mighty Sarafan Lord Kain falls into a vampiric torpor for 200 years.

The awakened Kian must find out who the Sarafan lord was and discover the secrets to the city of Meridian. Having played this recently in America it certainly justifies its position in the Legacy of Kain saga. The battles are fluid and varied and as usual the story and voice acting are compelling.

It's also refreshing to play as Kain, as he is unlike Raziel and is far less concerned with justice or honour. Although if you have played Soul Reaver 2 you will know Kain's true motivations.
Music is excellent and rivals the other games in the series for atmosphere. Graphically the game is very well realised with a steam punk city and richly detailed environments that speak of artistic talent. Play this and you will immerse yourself in a gothic world that will rapidy draw you into it's delights.
