2.0 out of 5 stars Entrances good but the quality ends there, 14 Jul 2002
By A Customer
I read a few reviews of this game and decided to buy it as I'm a huge boxing fan. I have to agree with everyone else who says that this game is only good for the ring entrances and nothing else. I mean, what is the story with the punch speeds? Is this what happens in a real boxing match? There is just absolutely no realism with this game whatsoever and I truly regret spending so much money on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun arcade slugfest with interesting character development, 22 Aug 2002
By A Customer
Not one for the boxing purist as some of the reviews below indicate, but I found this to be great fun if a bit limited. The charged-up power punches, special moves and low blows are more WWF than WBO - a bit more late Tyson than early Tyson, and none the worse for that. I also enjoyed being able to create a fighter in great detail and have his size and shape affect directly his potential as a fighter. You can buy new punches and better skills as the game progresses adding a sort of strategy/rpg element.
The graphics are good, there's fairly good variety in the boxers (although Knockout Kings seems to have snapped up all the big-name licenses, and who are THESE guys?), and it's a lot of fun two-player. But if you're after a perfect boxing simulation don't bother. This is one for arcade sluggers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly a tribute to Tyson, 28 Jun 2002
I bought this game at around 9:30 in the evening, by 10:00 had put the disc in my PS2. By 10:30 the PS2 was turned off & I was sat there in disbelief. I've bought I think every boxing game that's ever been released in the UK on playstation 1 or 2, and this game is a real paradox.

The 'wind up' to each fight has jaw dropping graphics, as the fighters touch gloves it still looks fantastic. However then the fight starts.

I'd hoped for a realistic boxing game, so I didn't account for the immensely sluggish footwork you're stuck with. But the most highly irritating thing about this game has to be the sheer speed of the punches that simply defy realism completely. Ok that may not put you off, but when you can land perhaps ten punches in three seconds it's not actually like boxing at all. It must therefore follow that anyone wanting to play as Mike Tyson won't exactly get much of a simulation! I remember better playability on PS1 games, seriously!

If you're looking for an after the pub, beat em up with no real involvement, perhaps this would last you a month or two. If you're into boxing & are looking for a realistic game to play, give this a wide birth & don't waste your money. I can't stress that enough.

A terrible waste of money in my view, I'm sure Tyson must be fuming to see his name on this! Knockout Kings 2002 is far better, but this is comparable to 20 year old arcade classics.
