Synopsis
In BEVERLY HILLS COP II, Eddie Murphy is back as Axel Foley, a resourceful Detroit detective who doesn't exactly play by the rules. When his friend Andrew Bogomil (Ronny Cox) is wounded in an event related to mysterious "alphabet crimes," Foley hightails it to California and reunites up with officers Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) in an effort to stop the robberies that are creating fear in the city's businesses and to avenge the attack on his friend. Along the way, their investigation into the crimes leads them to a strip club, the Playboy mansion, and even the racetrack. Director Tony Scott's (CRIMSON TIDE, TOP GUN) film offers a wild ride as Foley talks his way into and out of various scenarios. Watch for comedian Chris Rock's feature-film debut in his brief appearance as the parking valet and for Paul Reiser as Jeffrey Freidman, Axel's partner in Detroit.

Eddie Murphy's ego appears to be a little out of control at times here. This was when he was the most bankable star in Hollywood for a brief time. There are some very funny scenes, but on occasion it looks like Murphy's add libbing has gone a little too far and no one had the nerve to tell him he'd overcooked the joke. It's still slick entertainment though, but it doesn't have the air of realism that the original had. Played more for laughs and explosions it's achieves what it sets out to and for that it's worth 2 hours of anyone's time.  Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)   3 of 4 people found the following review helpful: An excellent action movie which is also full of laughs, 2 April 2002 By A Customer Axel is back and in the mood for revenge after one of his beverley hills friends is gunned down in broad daylight. He teams up with his remaining police buddies to try and find the gun man and the reason for the shooting. There are many laughs along the way and some unexpected events involving a cement truck.. to say more would spoil this for those who have not see this film yet. This is a must for all Eddie Murphy fans, and for all those who arent, its comical story line entwining with a good plot still make it a brilliant film.  Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you?
