This is the my favorite of all the Friday the 13th's. For one I love the style, I am a huge fan of the Universal Monster movies and the start of this seemed like one of them, which the director intended "if you turned down the colour it would look great in b&w" and boy was the intro impressive. It was a tribute to Frankenstein mostly, the atmosphere and scenery were very spooky it's everything you would want a colour Universal Monster movie to be like, though nothing will beat b&w.

It's a relief that it doesn't take itself too seriously I mean a Part VI movie how could you take that seriously? The humor is pretty good, I like how a lot of the jokes are hidden, I swear every time I watch this I notice another joke. It's also got a lot of pop culture references from the time period such as the 007 styled title screen. I also love the action movie elements such as the car chase sequence which doesn't really belong in a Friday the 13th but works so well because of those reasons.

The final battle was very entertaining and suspenseful they decided not to do the average final girl chase sequence and do a epic fight in a ring of fire with Tommy, I thought it was funny how they ended it like yeah Jason'll come back we wont try and mask that because each sequel before that had Jason dead at the end but this one just flat out tells you he'll be back, he'll always come back xD.

The soundtrack is so awesome featuring songs from Alice Cooper including an original anthem about Jason written especially for the movie. This one revived the series and quite rightly so there has not been any before or after in the series quite as good as this.

The hockey mask is back. And it's pretty good stuff; well, for us aficianados, anyway.

In terms of technical efficiency and cinematic wit, director Tom McLoughlin's contribution to the interminable Friday the 13th franchise is the strongest of the series and a genuinely entertaining slice of eighties horror.

Four out of five stars may sound generous for a film of such low-brow limitations, but to take the franchise on its own terms, and restricting criticism across and between films within the much derided slasher sub-genre, Part VI stands up as a solid piece of work.

Comparison with other Friday films will illustrate Part VI's superiority: it has some semblance of a story (Tommy Jarvis, adolescent victim of Jason and now a young man fresh from a mental institution, is out to kill his old foe once and for all); the killings are executed with aplomb (a triple decapitation springs to mind); and as well as a decent sized budget on show, undercutting the horror is a certain postmodern knowingness (after finding Jason's disturbed grave, the gravedigger stares straight to the camera and with drunken indignation says, 'some folks have got a strange idea of fun.'

McLoughlin, it seems, was shrewd enough to play it mostly for laughs now that the series had limped towards its sixth offering. Some of the comedy is unintentional too, of course (check out the gun that an early victim pulls on Jason - it's a little toy). But that's part of the fun, isn't it? Overall, this is a good slice of saturday night horror.

friday the 13th part 6 is the best of the popular franchise,everything was in place here to make this the best of the bunch,it had some great kills,good suspense,decent laughs and a good cast who punched above their weight perhaps to make this very watchable.
This film at times feels big budget in comparison to the other,jailbreaks,mass explosions and strong and bloody special effects combine to make this something special,as a one off this film is well and good,as part of the series it is the leader,get it.

After Friday The 13th Part V A New Beginning [1985], this once-proud franchise was in dire need of an even newer beginning, and writer/director Tom McLoughlin really came through, basically, as far as I'm concerned, saving the series. Not only do we get the real Jason back, he's bigger and badder than ever. We also return to Camp Crystal Lake (now renamed Forest Green in a rather transparent attempt to excise the whole Jason "legend" from the area), where we not only have camp counselors but - for the first and only time in the series - actual campers. Naturally, there's no way to resurrect Jason without resorting to some kind of hokey miracle - after all, the dude's been rotting in his grave for several years now. Apart from that, though, the script is surprisingly good, and the kills are very good indeed (even though the best parts of many of them were once again toned down and edited in order to secure the film an R rating). On top of all that, McLoughlin was able to sprinkle in some scattered bits of humor in ways that actually worked - which is no small feat in and of itself.

It's best just to pretend that Friday the 13th Part V - A New Beginning never happened - and the fact that Tommy Jarvis is now played by Thom Matthews (the third Tommy in as many movies) makes that a little easier to do. It seems that our boy Tommy has been released from whatever mental hospital he had been living in over the last few years - but he still has nightmares about Jason (quite understandable). Well, he's sick of all that and returns to the scene of Jason's crimes to dig the monster up and make sure he's thoroughly destroyed.Read more ›
