Synopsis

Crispin Glover and Corey Feldman star in this, the fourth movie in the venerable FRIDAY THE 13TH series. Though some had written off the series by this installment, in retrospect this looks like it was the best of the series (leading to more sequels, despite the title). First, Glover injects some much needed personality into the film as Jimmy, one of the many doomed teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake, and he seems to somehow make the other teens a little more entertaining, including Feldman's Tommy, ostensibly the hero of the picture. Second, and perhaps most importantly, the gore effects here are done by the legendary Tom Savini (the original FRIDAY THE 13TH and DAWN OF THE DEAD), who adds a level of inventiveness to the endless killings that the series hadn't yet experienced. Plus...horror fans finally get to see what Jason looks like under that trademark hockey mask.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has anyone seen the corkscrew?, 26 Feb 2002
By far the best entry in the original set of 'Friday 13th' movies (ie. discounting the abysmal 5, 7, 8 & 9 and not including the sublime 6 due to the nasty taste its pre-cursor left in the mouth), the 4th is worth seeing if only to watch the infernal, annoying Crispin Glover die by corkscrew and machete!

The story picks up directly from the end of Part3 - surprise surprise, Jason *wasn't* actually dead and rises from his trolley in the morgue before quickly despatching a couple of hospital workers.

Jason then makes his way back to Crystal Lake where *yet_another* set of stupid teens have decided to sit around in their underwear and wait for their short lives to be ended in a spurt of crimson and the flash of an unnecessarily large blade.

The 'hero' of this instalment is a very young Corey Feldman (who plays Tommy Jarvis as horror-flick obsessed annoying brat very well) who finally manages to achieve what every other 'hero' failed at by killing off our favourite anti-hero with a particularly vicious final assault. I only hope that this version keeps the full extent of Jason's death throes uncut as without the full extent of the gore the Friday films just don't cut it (pun intended).

But even without the gore restored this remains the best of the original quartet and, of the total 9 '13th' films so far released (and with a tenth film on the way...)only Part 6 surpasses it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Jason, you have been a naughty boy haven't you..., 13 May 2009

A precocious pre-fame Corey Feldman leads the way in the fourth segment of the Friday the 13th schlock-horror franchise. Claimed by many to be the best in the series, the film's subtitle 'The Final Chapter' reminds us that this was originally meant to end the series and kill off the masked bogeyman once and for all. With an increase in the titillation the genre is known for, the opening scenes in the hospital morgue see a couple of horny medics become the first two victims, as Jason revives from his 'axe in the head' death that ocurred at the end of the third film. Events pick-up where Part 3 left off, and Jason soon finds another gaggle of amorous teenage counsellors to butcher. The increasingly inventive deaths, the signature hockey-mask that Jason acquired in the last film, and an upping of blood and gore content - plus markedly improved effects - are all reasons why this is loved by fans, and there really was no way the producers were going to stop at part 4 after decent box-office returns again improved on the previous installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars great, the life story of tommy jarvis, 31 Dec 2004
the body count continues in the fourth instalment of this vivid thriller - story in the widely successful friday the 13th series Jason, crystal lakes's least popular citizen, returns to wreck further havoc in friday the 13th - the final chapter. after his revival in a hospital morgue, the hockey-masked murdurer fixes his vengeful attention on the jarvis family and a group of hitherto carefree teens. Young tommy jarvis is an aficionado of horror films with a special talent for masks and make-up. has the diabolical jason finaly met his match? tommy has an expected turn at the end, but you will have to buy this first and you won't regret it!
