4.0 out of 5 stars SICK MAIN EVENT, 13 Dec 2001
By A Customer
In this event everyone turned up expecting to see a sick main event!...Well what else would you expect if it is Terry Funk versus Sabu in a barbed wire rope match.

during this match sabu gets his arm badly ripped open which causes the thick scars that are on his arm to this day.

the rest of the card ranges form Excellent to poor, but it is still worth getting just for this match.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just BARBED F'N WIRE!!!, 27 May 2002
I personally bought this vid for the Barbed Wire finale between Sabu and the Funker and that was impressive!!!
XXX - Two men literally wrapped in barbed wire and putting each other through tables!
XXX - Bill Alphonso getting his back carved open with wire!
XXX - Sabu's 'poetry in motion' attack missing and causing his bicep to be ripped open - he has to tape the gash closed!!!

But this video is more that just Barbed Wire!!!
You see...

XXX - Little Spike Dudley missing a plancha and falling head first on concrete!
XXX - A fantastic 6-Man Tag match between The Dudleys and Hack Meyers, Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney - these guys fight all over the arena and use Chairs, Tables and Barbed Wire Baseball Bats!!!
XXX - Great run-in at the end of the Tommy Dreamer/RVD clash - loads of foreign object stuff and some BREATH-TAKING AERIAL MOVES by Kronos - INCLUDING A 450 SPLASH!!!

buy it!!! BUY IT NOW!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars This is far beyond sports entertainment, 22 Jun 2004
I'm all for extreme wrestling, but this is beyond sports entertainment! The main event, a barbwire match between Terry Funk and Sabu is just horrible. Barb wire matches are seen as the most hardcore matches you can get, and are very rare on major US wrestling promotions, so ECW fans would think they are in for a real treat. Sounds great, but in real life it seriously isn't, there is no wrestling in the match, just two men mutilating their bodies with barb wire. This isn't the fake barb wire they use in other wrestling promotions, it's real and the effect it has on both men’s bodies is a brutal as you would expect. At first Funk and Sabu are trying their best not to kill themselves so the pace is very slow, but as the match goes on, their regard for personal safety diminishes and they throw themselves and each other into the barb wire, blood goes everywhere and there is constant stoppages while the men attempt to untangle themselves or repair their bodies enough to continue.

The horrendous injuries these men suffer make this hard to watch and even if you like such strong violence, the slow pace and continual stoppages sap any entertainment value from the match.

The rest of the card is fairly lack lustre, RVD vs Tommy Dreamer is decent enough, but the majority of other matches are poor to average encounters.

Don't get me wrong I love the table breaking, the chair shots and the crazy stunts that ECW is infamous for, but when a wrestling match is little more than 2 men seriously hurting each other, then it is no longer fun. This is far beyond the level of violence that should be seen in any wrestling ring, and is little more than a morbid spectacle.

This is the most violent ECW video around, it is also one of the least entertaining. There are much better ECW events around that are violent and entertaining without being ridiculously dangerous or sick. I would avoid this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars pretty boring
I felt that the matches were not really as technically sound as they could have been. They had wrestlers who were capable of far more than what was produced. Read more
