Once in a while an album of this quality turns up in the public domain, Vikter Duplaix has done it, he has created a masterpiece. Starting off Critical Point- the beginning Duplaix sets the scene with an afrobongo like tune. It seems as if HAL from Arthur C Clarke's 2001 is breaking up the songs with a computerised monotone voice sending every song, each grasped in it's own unique genre, into the future. This eclectic combination of artists is the very essence of Vikter Dupliax. Songs from 4hero, Herbert, Osunlade, de la soul, Erykah badu, even Ashley Beedle gets a mention. But, unsurprisingly it is left to Vikter Duplaix to cut one of the best tracks your likely to hear for some time. Sensuality, a new age funky soulful track that starts with the ever present HAL, fortunetly though the vocals along with a beautiful drumbeat carry this song into a heavenly experience. Next up, Mandrake - berimbau (bongo re-edit) and what a re-edit this is, if you were thinking about throwing a latino style party with lots of crazy Brazilians, then this is the track for you. It starts fairly simply, a kind of Jazz/bongo/trumpet crashing song which gets faster and faster, towards the end you are immersed in a tempo rich tune as if a manic madman has been let loose on the turntable and has just pushed a button that says "if you press this button the tempo will got into free fall". Then, track 12; Hopper featuring carina anderson - welcome to the world, a song you could play to your mother; smooth with nice female vocals. If only the songs were longer, some just three minutes deep, spoils it at times but that's just me wanting more. You will listen to this album over and over again and it will keeep on getting better. As Duplaix looks for a common demoninator between all peoples through his music, he has truly found it here he has found a universal sound.

"Welcome to the universal sounds of Vikter Duplaix" claims a cybernetic voice, your guide through this DJ Kicks journey of 21st. Century soul. Winner of the Philadelphia city paper "most stylish" award, this dj, producer, singer, songwriter credits expand in the liner notes of artists like Erika Baduh, Jamiroquai, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Eric Benet, Esthero, and King Britt's Sylk 130 to name just a few. A high ranking member of the Gilles Peterson's "Worldwide" family, Duplaix is dedicated to the preservation and expansion of the roots of black american music, once threatened of extinction by the selling out of Hip-Hop and R&B. This mix, featuring Vikter Duplaix's brand new track "Sensuality", 4Hero, Herbert, De La Soul, Erika Baduh, as well as an arsenal of rock solid lesser known talents, runs the gamut for all its diversity, a testament that soul music is still alive and strong.

awesome, absolutely awesome!!!, 4 Feb 2002
Listening to this CD is like going thru the WorldWinners of 2001 on Gilles Peterson's show. Even Vikter used expression 'a universal sound' for this mix CD. It's highly enjoyable collection of the big tunes which saves you from buying a lot of singles unless you are vinylhead. Vikter's done pretty good job. No wonder he called his track included on CD 'Sensuality'. It makes a lot of sense.
