Queensryche live...and it`s about time!, 25 Sep 2002
Finally Queensryche have released a live video covering their entire career. Having loved "Operation:Livecrime", when I heard this was on the way I couldn`t wait. It was worth it.Recorded in the bands hometown of Seattle in an intimate theatre, it`s a more personal performance than the big production of the earlier "..Livecrime". The sound is also better, crystal clear. The picture quality is fantastic, so good it must have been recorded with the higher resolution British video cameras. Musically, this a treat for anyone who has enjoyed Queensryche over the years. From early classics "NM156" and "London" through the classic "Mindcrime" and "Empire" years, right up to the most recent "Q2K", there is something for everybody. There is even a guest appearance by Pamela Moore, reprising her role in "Suite sister Mary" from "Operation:Mindcrime". There are maybe one or two hits like "Walk in the shadows" and "I don`t believe in love" missing, but you can`t have everything. My own personal favourite has to be "Screaming in digital", which sounds phenomenal. The only real gripe is the absence of Chris DeGarmo, whose guitar work and, most glaringly, backing vocals are badly missed. Michael Wilton takes most of the lead guitar work and doesn`t disappoint while Eddie Jackson takes up the slack on the singing. Scott Rockenfield turns in a powerhouse performance, never missing a beat and driving the band. Geoff Tate is the real star, though. Some of the high notes may be gone but he proves he is still one of rock`s great frontmen. Kelly Gray just looks like a sideman. Overall this video captures a great performance. The acompanying album is also excellent containing songs that aren`t on this video. For the entire experience I suggest you buy both. Thats what I did.
