808 State- Opti Buk: Thoughts and Impressions, 29 Jan 2002

Seems I was one of the lucky ones to receive Opti Buk the day of it's release, namely 28th January.
Here are my thoughts, impressions and criticisms regarding the 808 State DVD compilation.. I may as well talk about each section in turn: firstly, I opted to watch the Home Videos section,
as it seemed I would learn more about the 'inner' 808 State from them. Unfortunately I had hoped
for a 'documentary' style section with some speech from 808 & their team.. The section turns out
to be 'menagerie' of movies and tunes, quite haphazard/arty at times. Must say, I thought they
were a good laugh, and once again we see the constrasting sides of the crew: Darren with his
dark, serious music maker look, and the Spinmasters fooling about and adding some light relief. Next up: The G-Mex footage. Having read comments over the past months regarding poor reproduction,
I must say I was pleasantly suprised to find the video footage clear, and the sound quality adequate.
Was cool to hear some of the 90/Ex:El tracks playing, and hear the reaction of the 11k strong crowd. I bought the 90's video Compilation, 808:Optical, the day it was released. Thusly I came to the singles
section last - I watched through the videos in order none the less, finally getting to see the Lift video!
And all this time I thought it featured 808 'getting their hair cut'. No, it doesn't happen! Compilation section wise - nice to see all the 808 twelve inch covers in one place.
I had hoped to see the remix (or even import) covers too, though. A quick note on 'State to State Vol.2', the bundled CD Album. It's great! Definitely could have been
a separate release in its own right, imho. So all in all, an excellent package..
it's about time 808's legacy was immortalised in a DVD quality setting.
