Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Toshiba has bided its time before entering the PDA market, but it looks to have been worth the wait as the Pocket PC e570 is a well designed and well specified piece of hardware. Specifications are crucial for any PDA--the better they are the more productive you should be able to be. So the 64,000 colour display, 64 MB of RAM and eight-hour battery life, all of which are at the top end of what can currently be managed in a PDA, are all enticing. The StrongARM processor from Intel fairly flies at 206 MHz, and should be able to cope with video played through the supplied Windows Media Player as well, of course, as riffling through your contacts, diary and e-mails and sending MP3s to stereo headphones (not included).

The presence of both a Type II CompactFlash slot and a MultiMedia Card (MMC) slot are also welcome. Having just one of these types of slot is useful, but having both means you can choose just about any kind of hardware and software add on, from CompactFlash digital cameras and 802.11 wireless cards to Bluetooth on MultiMedia cards, and of course even more added memory on either format. The device also supports Type I CompactFlash and Secure Digital (SD) cards, through the aforementioned slots.

On the design front the two-tone grey of the casing looks neat, and you can even buy interchangeable coloured side-bars to add a touch of personalisation to your e570. The native software is Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002--the latest version of that operating system. It is stored in Flash ROM. Flash ROM is important as it should allow you to administer software upgrades and patches easily yourself allowing you to keep your PDA up to date.

Pricing matters, of course, and Toshiba has done well to put quite so much hardware into this device for the money. Supplied accessories include AC adaptor, stylus, USB cradle, AC power cable and a soft case. If you are looking for a capable, upgradeable, powerful and neat PDA, this machine should definitely be on your list of possibles. --Sandra Vogel

5.0 out of 5 stars e570 is Fantastic, 21 Mar 2002
By A Customer
I have had many Pocket PC's through my hands, and iPAQ H3660, the new H3850 but this was the best out of all of them. The e570 is by far the best PDA you can buy in the market at the moment, it offers good value for money, 2 types of memory expansion Compact Flash Type II and SD, which the iPAQ H3850 only has SD which is expensive to buy and you have to buy special jackets which are expensive and then you have to buy the momory cards another £30 to £40 but not with the e570. You can easily buy accesorries including wirless packs and GSM phone cards- the possibilities are endless. Having had mine for 3 months now, I haven't found a fault. It is great for the business user and for someone who owns a business (like me) you can store your appointments and write your e-mails, download 3rd party software including flight simulators and reference suites, which most of them are free (shareware) read books that you have downloaded and even draw the perfect painting. The e570 is by far the best PDA on the market.

3.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba e570 - nice box, rotten battery, 21 May 2002
By A Customer
Great little PDA with CF & SD slots - no cpmlaints on isze, weight or performance as a PDA. Be careful, however, if you are planning to use this for more than 3 hours - it's impossible. Having bought a brand new one last week, I have been unable to stretch the battery life beyond 3 hours - and that is using minimum light power (you can't read thre screen with backlight off) and no CF/SD inserted. I contacted Toshiba about this directly - their answer was that the battery life is quoted with no light on & leaving the PDA switched on under noload conditions. Great little PDA if you can cope with this. A 32MB version is also available as the "Audiovox Maestro" for around $300 US.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba Pocket PC, 17 April 2002
By A Customer
I already have a palmV and a psion. I was a big fan of the psion revo - it's small size and keyboard being the main features. However, the demise of the psion and poor lighting as my eyes are getting older made me look at alternatives.
Toshiba's offering with pocket PC had very good reviews so I took the plunge. This was made easier because I have a long history of buying toshiba laptops and found them to be the best built products on the market.
The pocket PC has lived up to expectations. The colour screen is brilliant. The size of the product is very appealing as it fits neatly into my pocket. 64 MG RAM and a CF slot allows me to have several medical E books available.
I was (after a bit a fiddling) able to convert all my phone data into outlook and then transfer to the pocket PC. This in the end was the factor that made this product my only PDA device. I have abondoned the other 2.
