Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
The nostalgia industry grinds onward ever onward, but along the way, it throws up a few real gems. If the reported long-term effects of ecstasy are anything to go by, Old Skool Euphoria should be a barely-reminiscent series of fluffy, disposable dance tunes. Remarkably, though, a decade on, these tunes still sound bright, brash and refreshing as the enormous smily that adorns this album's cover. Old Skool Euphoria spans the broad dance terrain of the early 1990s, from the chart-friendly pop-rave overground to the darker strains of emergent techno, jungle and progressive house, and surprisingly, for a compilation mixed by boiler-suited acid-house commandos Altern-8--an act once mocked as the novelty face of hardcore--it's remarkably gimmick-free. No "Ebeneezer Goode" or "Sesame's Treet" here: instead, ancient rave treasures such as LFO's "LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix)" and Renegade Soundwave's "Phantom" rub up against joyful pop epiphanies such as Sonz of a Loop Da Loop Era's "Far Out" and Snap's "Rhythm Is A Dancer". Classics one and all, this is the perfect reminder of a day when dance music was unpretentious and a whole lot of fun. --Louis Pattison

5.0 out of 5 stars Euphoria - the best dance compilation cds ever recorded!, 3 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Wow! What a blast from the past! As well as dancing my pants off to this super cool old skool compilation, I spent the whole time grinning and shouting "God, I remember this one!". Yet again the Euphoria team have excelled themselves and come up with a superb collection of dance tracks from the old rave days of my youth. Most of them I had forgotten until now, so top marks to Euphoria for dusting them off and making them available again to us old ravers! I also bought the Ministry of Sound Old Skool cds but the Euphoria cds are much better by a long shot. Go get em!

5.0 out of 5 stars massive beats from way back, 5 Jun 2003
It took me forever to get over the accidental melting of some altern8 vinyl, so when searching for replacements, I heard of a mix cd by altern8, I thought what the hell and forked out.

To let you all in, a guy from my year 10 maths class in 89-90 called David Stanley (orginally from England - moved to aust) was cranking a tape he had brought with him one day with Infiltr8 as one of the tracks. I was hooked from then on. I even managed to get a yellow altern8 hooded jumper hahaha. Didn't get the gas mask tho!

Anyway, all the wicked tracks that made anyone who wanted to give the emerging house/dance scene a go in the late 80's early 90's is here on these cd's! From K-Klass to Q-Bass, Future Sound of London (gotta love PNG - One of the best EVER!) to the handover to some classic prodg with everybody in the place.. Lets GO!

This is now one of my favourite mix CD's, up there with In Order to Dance..

5.0 out of 5 stars Rewind,Check ! 20,000 Hardcore Ravers, 19 Sep 2002

On contemplating the purchase of this C.D I was sceptical, just so it seemed, by the overall appearance of the sleeve. I bit the bullet and took "Old Skool Euphoria" home and stuck it on.The mixing in general was pretty naff and I would describe it moreso as laying the end of one and the start of another tracks intro together. The tunes made me smile nevertheless and reminded me of my "Raindance","Biology","Orange at the Rocket", Eclipse,Weekend World and Telepathy days, bringing a little tear to the corner of my eye wondering why the scene we loved so much sold out to the Majors.Djs like Hype,Grooverider,Slipmatt and Carl Cox worked those 1210s to melting point and this C'D SHOULD have displayed their artistry. In a word the tunes are timeless and that is what will sell this particular package of sound, Quality of mixing is more or less what you would expect in todays clubland > DJs that cant mix for toffee!
