Just buy it, 5 Dec 2001
Okay, I must say that this one is worth gushing over. I'm a music reviewer from the United States, and I listen to piles upon piles of power-pop CDs. And I must say that The 45s (formerly known as Ruth) are, quite literally, just about the best damn band in the world right now. And yet not nearly enough people are paying attention. So here's the thing; if you like hard-driving, knock-your-socks off rock and roll that's also catchy as all hell and sounds great each and every time you put it on, do yourself a big favor and buy this now. It's not expensive. It won't break the bank. It will, however, make you happy. Just listen to me for once, okay?

Something good, 8 Dec 2001
I saw the 45s live in Manchester recently, supporting Shed 7, and on the strength of that performance bought this single as soon as I could get my hands on it. It's not often that a support act almost overshadows the main band, but the 45s left me wanting to see if hey could transfer their powerful and stunning live performance onto disc. This single proves that they can. It is a powerful piece of music, but full of rythmic and harmonic subtleties that seem to hallmark the 45s music. When I saw them live they played 'Something Real', announcing it as their forthcoming debut single, and it wasn't their best song of the night! This band blend power with almost Beatle-esque harmonies. Their songs are full of twists and turns in terms of key and time changes, so not a dull moment is to be had. In short, this band are good! This single is good! I can't wait for the album!

Single of the year, 8 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Straight out of Austin, Texas, The 45s combine lifting lyrics, searing melodies, harmonies that would make your mother cry and rock solid, foot stomping rhythms with effortless style and ease.Something Real is their first single, exhibiting exactly those qualities of the band, and all that's great about music that makes you smile, tap your foot, nod your head and stand up and dance. Surely if this isn't pop, it should be. With two of the best b-sides you'll ever hear, this is by far my single of the year. Buy it. You'll wonder how you ever lived without it... The word 'panache' was invented for this band.
