Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Like the movie, Mychael Danna's soundtrack to Monsoon Wedding is a mix of old and new. Set in the New Delhi, the film chronicles the Vermas' preparations for their daughter's extravagant wedding. At times the soundtrack, like the story, is serious and frantic, at other points light-hearted and airy. On film the music complements the action outstandingly well; out of context, however, the score is at times repetitive and unoriginal. Multiple mixes of trendy Talvin Singh-style trip-hop tunes are featured with three similar-sounding versions of the unremarkable "Fuse Box", as well as two mixes of "Aaj Mera Jee Kardaa" (Today My Heart Desires). "Baraat" though is a bouncy, fun tune, which could have complimented any of Charlie Cairoli's circus routines. Opening with a Eurobeat introduction similar to Culture Beat's "Mr Vain", "Aaj Nachle" (Come On Dance) is a Hindi-NRG climax to both the film and the soundtrack. This is a collection made up both of mixed emotions and musical styles.--John Galilee

5.0 out of 5 stars If you enjoyed the film you have to love this!, 16 Mar 2002
By A Customer
I was thrilled to see the film, and couldn't wait for the soundtrack to be realeased. Representing the 'India of today' in all senses of the phrase this soundtrack is a whirl-wind tour of the subcontinent in general. Track-15(Chunari Chunari)is just fantastic. 'Allah Hoo' is brilliant example of Pakistan's Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. And the passionate Track-2 really gets you in the mood too. Essentially the soundtrack summarises the 'mood' of the youth in the subcontinent today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diverse collection - fab intro to pop mod Indian music, 6 Feb 2002
By A Customer
A fabulous and diverse collection of popular modern Indian music - a good introduction, as well as being a very able contender for a place in anyones compilation CD section. As good as the movie all on its own.
