I didn't see the UK version of this show when it was first shown on Channel 4 back in 1999, but I saw some repeats in 2003. I instantly adored the show, and discovered a couple of months later that there was an American version of the show. So, relying on good faith and recommendations, I bought the box set through Amazon.com. Quite honestly, I wasn't expecting as much as from QaF UK, but having seen both and compared them, I much prefer QaF US. There's so much more drama in this show, the characters end up much better developed (admittedly, there are more episodes) and it seems much mor well rounded. The first few episodes follow the UK one closely, but after Ted's character survives the drug overdose the series becomes it's own. And what a great series it becomes. It deserves 5 stars.

After being a fan of the UK version I decided to give the much raved about American show ago, and I can honestly say that I was dreading it, thinking that they would cast an unbelievable and sanitised brush over it.....and what can I say?? I was wrong and I'm not afraid to admit it, the characters are given depth the stories are well written and moving and each actor performs at the highest level.

While the first 3 or so episodes are almost exacltly the same as the original - it does go its own way and all the better because fans of the original would just sit and moan about delivery of lines or the way they changed things etc - I know because I did it!
And once it makes its own storyline and becomes more involved in its own characters it becomes a delight to watch.

One of my all time favourite shows and well worth the money and effort it takes trying to get it imported!

I'd heard of Qaf-US version over the years but never wanted to watch it. As a straight female, I figured it just wasn't my thing. However, I finally broke down and bought the first season on dvd about a month ago, and boy was I wrong! Not only was Qaf hot and sexy, but it was thought provoking and real. I actually fell in love with the characters. Since then, I 've made it my business to see all the other episodes from every season. I've even gotten several "straight" family members to come aboard. My only regret is that I never acknowledged the show when it was still on tv, fresh, hot, and new.
