Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
Blood Wake makes a refreshing change from the wash of other combat games out there. The main difference being all the action takes place on water. A simple idea granted, but one that is highly enjoyable. This is not the deepest of games, so don't expect any mind-expanding missions, just good old-fashioned mayhem and destruction.

Jump straight in and grab yourself a speedboat loaded full of weapons and embark on a variety of death matches. Pit your wits against the AI opponents or throw down the gauntlet with a bunch of fellow gamers. Chose from a variety of weather conditions, sit back and enjoy the ride. Or enter the story mode and begin your voyage of discovery and revenge. Set out to impress your new boss by bobbing around varied missions tearing up the shoreline and blowing your enemies out of the water. Progress through the missions and prepare for some tough opposition as you fight the Jade Kingdom and battle to turn the tide.

Due to the hefty power of the Xbox, the game looks fantastic and handles even better. This game is fast and furious and packs a punch. Prepare for some gun-toting action and leave your enemies drowning in your bloody wake. --Rob Holliday

OK I suppose but not the best - a relatively simple game and just about 3 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bloodwake Review, 23 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Bloodwater was one of the microsoft games available at release. The Xbox proved that is a quality machine with some of the other release games so what went wrong here? The game involves you driving round in a boat shooting other boats and smashing crates to recieve power ups and additional health. That is basically where the games problems come from. It is one of the simplest games I have ever played. All that is required is you drive around with your thumb on fire and steer towards other boats. Most of the weapons use autoaim which ridicules the point of a shoot-em up. Also the sheer nature of boats means any skillful manoeveures are pretty much impossible as their turning circle is too large. It is not all bad as the game does feature some pretty realistic water effects and it is extremely easy to get into. It also has an o.k. multiplayer game where up to four players can battle it out against each other. However it soon becomes a bore as it is too repetitive. With a little bit of imagination this could have been one of the better launch titles. However, maybe as it was rushed for release at launch, I would say that it is an average game only enjoyable in small doses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value... If you're a serious ganes player!, 24 Jan 2003
By M Rawle (Cardiff, Wales) - See all my reviews
Make no mistakes, the concepts behind this game are VERY simple. Pick a boat, choose which guns to put on the boat, shoot other boats. If that description puts you off, don't buy the game - it's a simple as that.

If you're still reading however, I'll assume that that didn't put you off TOO much! The mission structures of this simple action game mainly consist of driving around shooting other boats with the occasional added thrill of a time limit or a special boat to kill. This game isn't worth £40, agreed. This game is WELL worth £20 though! But why?

Well, simple though the concept may be, this game is well worth getting into. At first it seems as though there is absolutley no skill involved in blowing oposing boats away - but as you soon find out from about level 5 in the games massive 24 mission campaign, this game is VERY hard, even on the easiest difficulty! You'll have to learn to be fast and deadly in the water, using torpedoes, cannons, static shockers, chainguns and mines to best efficiency.

Get the hang of the awkward controls (rather like driving a vehicle in Halo - you should know what I mean if you've played Halo... if you haven't however, what are you doing thinking of spending your money on ANY game other than HALO?!?) and there's a LOT of depth to this game. About 25 boats to unlock, 8 maps (which don't really seem that diffrent, but are still nice) and 8 Game modes (such as player vs computer team deathmatches). The 4 player multiplayer deathmatch modes are great as well, just work out who's what boat first - it's absolutley no fun if you're all battleships... but what about a 3 speedboats vs 1 battleship match? Just how many torpedoes CAN you dodge?!?

You'll sit down to play this game for 5 minuites, and you'll die, and you'll try again, and you'll get into that whole "Just one more go" spiral that has ruined every gamers social life! And the best bit of it all is, you DO get better, and then when you go back to deatmatch against you're friends, you'll be playing 3 battleships vs 1 speedboat, and still sending their ships to the briny depths! Bwaaa haaa haaa! Long live the Shadow Clan!

P.S. When I say hard, just take the fifth mission as an example - it forces you to capture and defend 3 ships, whilst throwing bucketloads of faster, stronger boats at you. It seems impossible at first, but when you learn to aim those torpedoes.... ooooo, the satisfaction of seeing those boats go sky high!
