Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Dodge ball, the American schoolyard sport in which kids pelt each other with rubber balls thrown at welt-raising velocity, really is the sport of bullies--the US equivalent of British Bulldog. Thankfully, Super Dodge Ball Advance presents an experience in which the welts aren't included, while lots of fun and laughs are.

The game features two teams of squat, cartoonish, big-headed kids. Some are on the playing field and some reside in the back zone ready to scoot up a lob and nail an opponent in the back or from the side. The animations (particularly when a kid gets squashed) are amusing, and are, after all, the point of the game. Amass points and win the match, then move on to the next horde of big-headed kids.

There are several kinds of throw you can make to surprise your opponents, including a cool corkscrew throw and a straight-up overhand bean ball. As you knock teams out (no pun intended), you advance toward the world competition (shades of South Park here), where you represent your favourite nation. You can also link up with an opponent for a little head-to-head action, which is the best way to dish out some virtual pain onto local bullies who lack your mad video-gaming skills. --Andrew S Bub

Manufacturer's Description

As the most malicious playground game ever (well, next to the social anxiety of musical chairs), dodge ball gets its proper, playful venue on the Game Boy Advance with Super Dodge Ball Advance. The game, based on the NES classic, takes place in the not-so-distant future when the sport of preteens has become the sport of kings and national pride hangs on the home team's ability to triumph in the number-one worldwide sport. Gamers choose a national team and compete against eight other countries in tournament-style bouts. You can knock the competition woozy with all sorts of different moves (that slam-a-jam jump-throw is our favorite), customize your team by defining the attributes of your players, and play head-to-head against a friend's Game Boy Advance with the separately sold communication cable.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Be Serious, 24 Nov 2001
By Alexandria Munro (London, England) - See all my reviews
If you are looking for a serious sport game, perhaps this isn't for you. This game is all about fun and is an absolute joy to play.

Graphically it looks nice, all the players are different and all the special moves have their own animations. Each team also has its own background and court. The look is very cute and friendly which is nice.

The music is alright, but when you are having so much fun you don't really notice it. The players make little noises whe they are hit by the ball and the moves have their own sound efects too. The sounds go very nicely with the game and none of them are out of place.

Controlling your team is very easy, and so is pulling off special moves. It is possible to control a few members of your team at once and pull of some moves that will leave your oponents shocked.

The AI is good, the game starts off very easy but gets more challenging as you progress. You can also manually alter the difficulty and other options to make the game harder or easier. Apparently the AI adapts to how you play and is easier for new players and harder for more seasoned players, however I have not witnessed this yet, perhaps I haven't been playing long enough.

Multiplayer is fun, it's so good seeing the look on your friends face as you special throw his/her last player across the screen.

No doubt some people will steer clear of this wonderful game because of its cute looks and simple gameplay but they will be missing out. This is the most fun I have had so far on my GBA, and afterall that's what its all about, fun.
If you are looking for a fun game then look no further than this, it will to bring a smile to your face.
