5.0 out of 5 stars WWF VS WCW/ECW = Anarchy - Betrayal - Unholy Alliances!!!, 3 Mar 2002
This whole InVasion started when Shane Mc Mahon bought WCW when it looked like Vince was set to destroy it. Many WCW stars interfered in the matches and Vince was geting frustrated. It was announced that the July Event would be an InVasion between WWF and WCW. Things went from bad to worse for Vince when on July the 9th, ECW reformed to form the alliance with WCW. So now the stage was set - Sunday July 22nd 2001 - InVasion!!!!!!.

Here is a list of the matches which I will rate out of ten and write what I thought about it. :-

Mike Awesome + Lance Storm (ECW) Vs Edge + Christian (WWF) :- A great opener which got the crowd going. RATING = 7/10

Earl Hebner (WWF) Vs Nick Patrick (WCW) :- A short and boring match between two senior referees. At least they kept it short. Rating = 3/10

A.P.A (WWF) Vs Sean O'Haire + Chuck Palumbo (WCW):- This was an O.K match which had some good double team moves and a killer Clothesline From Hell by Bradshaw. RATING = 6/10

Billy Kidman (WCW) Vs X-PAC (WWF) :- A superb match between two great athletic superstars. Loads of high flying action which will have you saying 'WOW'! RATING :- 8/10

Commisioner William Regal (WWF) Vs Raven (ECW) :-
I didn't really enjoy this match as it was a bit scrapy. RATING = 5/10

Big Show, Albert + Billy Gunn (WWF) Vs Kanyon, Hugh Morrus + Shawn Stasiak (WCW) :- A poor match which was too short. It was a match which was kind of put together with people who weren't on the original card. 5/10

Tajiri (WWF) Vs Tazz (ECW) :- Some nice spots in this match with a good ending. Rating = 7/10

Rob Van Dam (ECW) Vs Jeff Hardy (WWF) :- EXTREME! This match is more stunts and high flying moves than hardcore action but that is what makes it so good! WHAT A VAN DAMINATOR !!! RATING = 9/10

Booker T (WCW), DDP (WCW), Rhyno (ECW) + Dudley Boyz (ECW) Vs Kane, Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho + Stone Cold Steve Austin (WWF) :- We couldn't have asked for a better main event. There is action all around the ring and the wrestlers start fighting befrore the bell goes. Some tables are supplied, courtesy of the Dudley Boyz which come into great effect. After all the carnage there is only 3 men still in the ring. If you dont allready know what happens then buy this video now! RATING = 9/10

This event is only the beginning of the Alliance stars InVading!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars First Time Ever! WWF Vs WCW & ECW!!!, 9 Oct 2001
By Steveweiser (Sydenham, London) - See all my reviews

July 22nd 2001 was an historic night in the history of American professional wrestling, as for the first time, wrestlers from the WWF, WCW and ECW united (albeit under common ownership) in one supercard to settle just who was best! The Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio had never seen anything like it!

The main event was the "Inaugral Brawl" - a 10 Man tag team match featuring the best both the WWF and the Alliance of ECW and WCW stars had to offer. Representing the WWF were the WWF Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Kane and The Undertaker, whilst the Alliance were represented by WCW Champion Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Rhyno and the Dudley Boyz. You will witness an all-out war in this tag match with one of the most shocking endings of the year! If you missed it first time round, reacquaint yourself with this video!

There were plenty of wrestlers making their WWF PPV debuts at Invasion, but there were none bigger than "Mr PPV" himself, Rob Van Dam. And he had a specific role to play - he was the only man receiving a title shot that night, as he challenged an old foe, Jeff Hardy, for the WWF Hardcore title. Many hardcore WWF fans lambasted RVD before this night, criticising him as a "spot-wrestler", but this one was the match of the night, so said those who attended. If you're an RVD fan, or even a Hardyz fan, or someone who doesn't like either man, buy this video just to see this match!

Many male WWF fans regard an RVD match as being a treat, but Invasion provided yet another male-friendly treat as we got to see the first ever Tag Team Bra And Panties Match, as Lita tagged with Trish Stratus to take on Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson. There was a special guest referee for this match, paid to just stand there and look, and who could blame him? I enjoyed this match, and if you're a red-blooded male as well, I'm sure you'll love it as well.

The same special guest ref from that match was also the special ref for another match, a match between two senior referees, as the WWF's Earl Hebner took on WCW's Nick Patrick. Bit lame, but it's meant to be...

Other matches saw Edge and Christian take on Lance Storm and Mike Awesome, the APA face Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire, X-Pac Vs Billy Kidman, William Regal Vs Raven, Tajiri Vs Tazz and a six-man featuring Billy Gunn, Albert and The Big Show against Shawn Stasiak, Hugh Morrus and Chris Kanyon. For a history making event, there's none better. Although this gets 5 stars (just for RVD and the B&P match, plus the end of the Inaugral Brawl), there are better PPVs around (namely WrestleMania 17), so if you're only allowed to get one video this year, look elsewhere. But if you've got loads to spend, go ahead and get this!

4.0 out of 5 stars TED TURNER; LIKE THE DIAMOND CUTTER, YOU NEVER SAW IT COMIN, 6 Nov 2001
By A Customer
It is something that rival fans of the respective promotions had been debating for years. Place the best WWF talent against that of WCW and/or ECW, which comes out on top? Sadly this event was not well timed in respect of actually having the best talent on show. Due either to injury or showbiz distraction Triple H, Chris Benoit and The Rock were missing from one side. Due to previous disputes and McMahon family politics Jeff Jarrett, Sid, Kevin Nash and Goldberg were absent from the other. Inspite of this, however, Invasion still produced some terrific matches, none better than the WWF's Jeff Hardy vs. ECW icon Rob Van Dam, for the former's Hardcore title. This contest catapulted the dazzling Hardy to new extremes, beyond even those of the legendary TLC classics, whilst RVD's talents were finally showcased to a wider, international audience, with whom he had only been exposed during a brief flirtation with the WWF some four years previously.
The WCW stars that did make the crossover succeed in bringing several new dimensions to the old WWF PPV format. Particularly impressive are Lance Storm and Mike Awesome, whose tag team encounter with Edge & Christian kicks the event off in fine style, and Billy Kidman whose outstanding athleticism matches up superbly with X-Pac's to produce a compelling battle of the cruiserweights. The majority of the ECW contingent (Rhyno, The Dudleys, Tazz and Raven) were already familiar to the WWF audience, having competed there for varying periods of time prior to the inception of 'The Alliance'. Raven's match against WWF Commissioner William Regal is one of the worst on the card due to the unfavourable clash of styles involved. Tazz's battle with Tajiri, on the other hand, is a mini classic, the two of them being far more familiar with one another from the 'Japanese Buzzsaw's' days among the high octane Philadelphia promotion.
Of course there has to be the obligatory hint of novelty about the card. The bra and panties tag match is a surefire winner for those seeking titilation, however I fail to see how a match between two middle aged, athletically challenged referees was ever going to enhance anyone's interest. Maybe they were planning on making more of the Nick Patrick, corrupt official angle than they eventually did.
All this aside, the main event is totally compulsive viewing. A hard hitting, intense paced ten man tag match, containing furious and frenzied action both in and out of the ring and concluding with a dramatic twist which altered the complexion of the entire business.
Not as great as an event of this magnitude could, and probably should, have been, but with the McMahons now in complete control, there will, of course, be another night, another collision, another Invasion.
