Synopsis
This hard-hitting thriller, set in the seedy underworld of South London, is based on a true story. When his mum (Rita Tushingham) is attacked by a petty thief, Paul (Sean Maguire) hires an enforcer (Nicholas Ball) to rough the crook up. A gritty realistic true story of a young man who dabbles and becomes entangled in London's underworld.I won't spoil a gripping end to the best British gangland film since Get Carter.Knocks spots off Lock Stock.Go see for yourself.Well worth buying

5.0 out of 5 stars Ken H., 7 Jul 2003
By ken hopkins (North Cyprus) - See all my reviews
I say with out pride or shame, that I know the british criminal world more than the average man in the street does.

Recently, I got the chance to watch all lot of these british gangster movies and thought most of them weren't up to scratch. This however, was one that did. I reckon the people who made this have spent sometime in this world and it screams through.

If anyone wants an insight into this world I'd recommend it, as it is a lot more truthful and honest than the rest.

Good work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Snatch!, 20 Nov 2001
By A Customer
This film got an unjustified panning on it's release, for being "another bloody London gangster film", but as I understood it from the press around it, that was largely due to the delay in finding a distributor. If you're hesitant about seeing it, then I'd definitely urge you to give it a go - it's not as flashy, star laden or hyped as "Snatch" or "Sexy Beast" but it is much more gritty, grimy and down to earth than either of those efforts - it does show signs of being somewhat low budget and of a first feature by a first time writer/director - some of the performances are a bit uneven - but it is worth a look - you'll be surprised by Sean Maguire's ability to act, especially in a nerve wracking airport scene - and Danny Midwinter steals the show as his mate. Look out for excellent scottish actor Clive Russell in a brilliant cameo. If this popped up on your telly on a Sunday night, then you'd be very impressed - don't let the gangster film backlash put you off.And always remember:"Janice Beard 45 WPM" got GOOD reviews, so what do UK film critics know?

1.0 out of 5 stars Out of Depth
My reaction was not so much "another Brit Gangster Movie" but "another poorly directed and clunkily written heap of mockney claptrap". Abysmal and unpleasant. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars when you find out its a trye story, its a killer
This is the best british movie I have seen in years. The fact that its a true story is really disturbing. A real antidote to plastic gangster movies like Lock Stock.
