The Olympus does an admirable job and in addition to the ability to take advantage of the automatic landscape, portrait and even action settings to get the novice into the swing of things it boasts a 10x optical zoom. As you can imagine, this is great for getting you into the action and offers those into ornithology a chance to catch their prey without notice. Of course if moving images are your fancy, the C-700UZ does offer a simple motion picture solution.

Although the camera comes with an 8-MB SmartMedia card, it can fill up pretty quickly when taking high resolution pictures, and it's advisable to invest in further memory at the first convenient opportunity to fully exploit the potential of this camera.

As with any camera, image quality is one of the most important factors and this Olympus model lives up to the Olympus brand, with excellent ability to focus on the finest of details.
