2.0 out of 5 stars Great, but be careful you don't drop it..., 7 Mar 2002
By Alex Errington (Lancaster, UK) - See all my reviews
Well, I'm on my second MS Intellimouse Explorer now and since that has now broken I'm not sure whether to try for a third.

I got this following the purchase of a MS Optical mouse which was great but I really wanted something that was cordless *and* optical. Then this beast came along and I was very pleased with it initially.... then during some furied gaming the mouse slipped onto the floor - that was it, no response, no flashing lights, nothing!

Fair enough I thought, so I sent it back for a replacement and this one lasted nearly a month before it went kaput. I didn't even drop it this time, it just banged into my desk as I was moving it from my knee and then again I get no response at all.
This is definitely enough to put me off it forever. It's a great mouse to start off with, the buttons are well positioned and the battery life is OK (but I do use rechargables with it) and its comfortable to hold - BUT it's so FLIMSY you wouldn't believe.

Yes I know I dropped it on the floor and its got optical stuff inside it but I would still expect it to work after a bang on the desk, surely?

Maybe I'm being naive in thinking that it should work for more than 1 month or maybe I'm just to rough with my hardware but overall I'm not best pleased with this product. As I said, it's great to start with but if you mistreat it then that's it - back to your standby "ball" mouse with a cable until you get a new one!

Recommended for the features but not for the construction quality - overall 2-3/5

3.0 out of 5 stars Wireless Intellimouse, 31 Jan 2002
By M. Fogg (Est Midlands UK) - See all my reviews

Mouse works well and the install was a breeze.

The only problem I have encountered is that whenever I use my external 100mb Zip Drive to back up or print a document on my printer the mouse "freezes" after the other hardware has finished.

I have to Control/Alt/Del to close down and re-boot whereupon the Intellimouse works perfectly again.

Although I have installed new drivers fron the MS site this still occurs which is a bit of a pain.

Left a message on the MS support newsgroup but so far no advice forthcoming.

I did notice many complaints about low battery life on this news group but this has not occured yet with my mouse which I have now used for just over a month.

Apart from that one problem it is a very nice & tactile mouse that has a quality feel to it

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done Microsoft, 8 Nov 2002
A quality mouse with just one, simple bug bear. The amount of time the mouse takes to 'reactivate' when left idle for a few seconds can be a little annoying.
Apart from that the mouse is highly accurate and more comfortable to hold and use than your slippers. All the extra buttons are within easy reach for your fingers and they are easily customisable with the software included. There are some that say the mouse is heavy, but I seriously dont find this the case at all, I recommend they visit the gym.
The mouse has selectable channels so many mice can be used in the same proximity without causing interference with other users.
