Amazon.co.uk Review
Salt Lake City 2002 is the official game of the first Winter Olympics of the 21st century. The graphics and sound are fantastic; each event and venue are beautifully created and do help immerse you into the game. The downside, however, is the lack of events--six in total. This will leave you feeling a little short-changed, as many great events have been left out--there's no curling, luge, speed-skating, biathlon or ice hockey, and some of these would have been easy to re-create.

However, there are some great gaming moments in the featured events. The Downhill is by far the best and makes you wonder why the games industry chucks out innumerable snowboard games when this works so well; the "skier's eye view" camera angle is excellent--make sure you tuck those arms in! The Slalom and Snowboarding events are very similar, although a much slower race, the emphasis being on accuracy rather than speed. The Bobsleigh is great, though you'll be a lucky gamer if you finish the course. The two disappointments are the Ski Jump and Freestyle events, which look great but tend to leave you wondering what you actually did to win the gold.

Overall, we were impressed with the skiing events but feel that this is a wasted opportunity for what could have been a superb game; we can only hope that the official game of Torino 2006 on the PS3 will be better!--Laurent S Hall

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Short But Sweet, 9 Jan 2004
By S. Smith "sitorimon" (UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
As a big Olympic Games fanatic, I love these kind of button bashing games as they are (usually) painless fun thatyou can pick up and have a laugh with for just a few minutes.
The main problem with Salt Lake is that it really does only take a few minutes to see the entire game. There are only 6 events here, and if you thought Track and Field was stingy, suddenly this game makes Mr. Scrooge seem like a samaritan.
Of the 6 events here, a lot of fun can be had, especially Bobsleigh, Aerials and the only event where you can really race head to head, snowboarding.
The controls are easy to master, the graphics are crisp and the replays are complete with superb commentary, but with a complete lack of events, the game false starts before its in the stalls. A great shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Winter Sports Fun!, 28 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Overall I liked this game, it's fun. OK so it's not exactly overflowing with events (but there are 6 good events rather than the usual 1 or 2 good events and a bunch of rubbish ones you'll never play again) but if you like realism in your games then Salt Lake 2002 is THE only winter sports game your going to enjoy on PS2. Forget the random OTT antics of SSX this game requires precision timing and skill! There's a real sense of speed with the Downhill and Bobsleigh and Skijump is a good laugh with a couple of mates.

Overall Salt Lake is fun to play and looks great. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. I think this is the GT3 of the sports sim world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Olympics title yet, 25 Jan 2002
By J. Aidley - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Brilliant grapics, superb fun in multiplayer and not too shabby in singleplayer, this is without doubt the best olympics title to date. From the moment it opens on the frontend you know you're in for something special, and the excellent in-game graphics and jaw-dropping landscapes support this view. Most of the events are fun to play, especially the Slalom, it's just a pity the bobsleigh lets it down.
