Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Championship Manager Quiz is for all those footie Masterminds out there waiting to show off their trivial knowledge about the great game. The traditional ideology of Eidos's Championship Manager had you pitting your football nonce on how to manager a match, which formation you should play against West Ham and whether or not to buy Gareth Southgate.

Based around three game modes; single-player, two-player and pub quiz, the overall premise is a simple affair: score as many goals as you can by answering as many questions in the given timed match. Answer questions correctly and you'll make a successful pass or shot, get them wrong and the ball goes to the other team.

Questions vary in subject from transfers to European cups and you have some choice of what to go for by who you pass the ball to. To help you out, you have three "joker" cards similar to that of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire and these offer a chance to keep possession for that little bit longer.

Like Championship Manager the graphics are very simple and it is the questions you are playing for not the graphics. That said, they work very well and you'll soon find yourself getting excited as the clock ticks towards full time and the goal fast approaches --Jason Denwood

From the Developer

Seeing as currently I'm the only person who's liable to be able to 'review' the game I thought I'd post a brief description of the 'gameplay' for the 'main' exhibition mode of CM Quiz. There' s a football pitch containing two teams of players. At any point a player on the pitch will have a question category associated with them (these change randomly each 'turn' so you can't predict in advance what they're going to be), You can pass from your current player to any player who is 'visible' to him (ie. he is the next player in view from your current player so you don't have to pass 'through' a player to get to him).

So as an example, if the ball is with your left back you could pass to your 'left center defender' (who might have say 'Goals Goals Goals' as his category), your 'left winger' (who might have 'Team' as his category) or your 'left center midfielder' (who might have 'Ups and Downs' as his category).

Should one of your strikers have the ball you can shoot by making a 'pass' to the opposition keeper, if you get the question right its a goal and the game continues with a 'kick off' from the midfield positions.

If at any stage you get a question wrong the opposition player marking the player (if appropriate) gets the ball. If no player is marking your player (ie. next to your player) you do NOT have to answer a question and get a free pass.

In exhibition mode you play a normal football match (eg. Two halves showing a 45 minute clock (with injury time), however due to the clock being sped up this is approximately 4-5 minutes in real-life).

Its a really simple game to pick up and play (although tactically there is a fair bit to it, 'time wasting', passing back to players because that's where your stronger question categories are etc.) and most importantly 'fun' It can get very personal because you're playing as your 'team' and there are questions associated with that team on the board which can lead to a certain amount of embarresment should you find yourself Getting the questions on your 'team' wrong (take it from someone who knows)

As well as this 'exhibition' mode there are a few other modes, 'keepy-uppy', 'penalty shootout' and 'pub-quiz' mode. Marc Vaughan

3.0 out of 5 stars A UNIQUE STYLE OF GAMING, 6 Jan 2002
By A Customer
At first this game seems great. It's a different type of game completely as it tries to simulate a football match with questions. There are different ways to play it including: Exhibition,Keepy Uppy,2 player and Pub Quiz. Despite the fact that the:re are a wide range of questions, they do get repeated far too often. And if you are not a die hard football fan,for your own gaming enjoyment, DON'T BUY IT! If you are, you'll really enjoy it.
