Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Though Morning View follows hot on the heels of Incubus' breakthrough single "Drive", in no way does this fine album sound rushed (after all, their previous album Make Yourself was released nearly two years previously). Like fellow Los Angeles metal pioneers System of a Down, Incubus find themselves lumped in with the nu-metal fraternity merely because they're young(ish), angry and very loud. That's more than a little unfair, because their sound owes more to the clever and creative funk-metal of Faith No More or the Red Hot Chilli Peppers than the faux-rap posturing of Limp Bizkit. In fact, songs like "Nice to Know You", "Circles" and the excellent "Blood on the Ground" barely display any immature attitude problems at all, in spite of being both angry and very loud. But that's not all that sets Incubus apart: on "I Wish You Were Here", "Just a Phase", "11am" and "Mexico", Incubus show an uncharacteristic willingness to tread softly when necessary, using acoustic guitars and touches of strings to make less noise, but more impact. Some could call it selling out, but it sounds more like growing up. Morning View is a leap forward for a band who continue to get better with each release. --Robert Burrow

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album they have released!!!!!, 28 Sep 2001
By daz_green17@hotmail.com (Wolverhampton, England) - See all my reviews
If you thought Incubus couldn't get any better you couldn't be more wrong. The band return with an album that is their best to-date a mix of mellow and hard tracks that any Incubus fan will love. The album follows a trend for Incubus, making every album they have done to date different from the last, one thing that makes the band so good. The album starts off with the hard opener 'Nice to Know You' and ends on the ever so mellow 8 minute 'Aqueous Transmission'. The album is very different to their multi million selling 'Make Yourself' and is more like their 1997 album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Stand out tracks include the first single from the album 'Wish You Were Here', the beautifully mellow 'Just a phase', potential single 'Warning' and the stand out track which sends funk to a new level 'Are You In?'. On every track Brandon's voice is streched to its peak and DJ Kilmore adds funk to them. Every song is excellent and everyone who likes Incubus will be happy with the end result.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Subliminal Sensation, 5 Nov 2002
When I first purchased 'Morning View' it immediately became my travelling partner; wherever I drifted, Incubus were there to keep me occupied. Having already established the exquisite sounds of earlier renditions and material from their masterpiece 'Make Yourself', I doubted that the album would satisfy my needs.
In my normal state of consciousness I move in oblivion, ignorant to the hundreds of passer-bys, just purely concentrating on the music from my Walkman and on my destination. 'Morning View' disturbed this outlook on life and caused panic in my veins due to the burning anxiety of what was happening. It became apparent I was now extremely aware to the many different elements of what was happening around me. Simple events like young ladies carrying their shopping bags and businessmen talking on their mobile phones. My initial reaction was that the album blatantly had no interest or appeal and the only wise solution would be to save it for an early Christmas present for a mediocre friend.
The next day I decided to return to more appeasing sounds, unfortunately to my dismay 'Morning View' had only opened my eyes and showed me the door. I endured only apathy and loneliness for the entire day of my journey.
I returned to 'Morning View' with a totally different perspective, this time managing to realise that songs such as 'Wish you were here' and 'Echo' brought ravishing atmosphere even into the dullest of situations. Whereas 'Just a phase' and 'Circles' only electrified morning traffic and made noise and pollution appear blissful. It was clear that Incubus were simply consolidating their energy of music into every day movement.
In synopsis: - 'Morning View' creates a vigorous acuity and takes time to digest from beginning to end, but once you get to grips with all 13 sensations - you'll never be lonely or homesick.

5.0 out of 5 stars visionary, 15 Dec 2001
By A Customer
To me Morning view was the most anticipated albums of the year.Because i never knew what to expect,Incubus have always displayed such originality and maturity in a sometimes fake manufactured music world.
With incubus there are no gimmicks or ploys, somply excellent excellent music. So what would this album hold? Would they go back to their funk infused days of 1997's SCIENCE? Or would they follow up with a similar just as ace Make Yourself? Well did they? The answer is no,instead they produced a musical masterpiece that deserves recognition.
From the opening track 'Nice to know you' with it's mellow samplings, flowing bass, and not to mention Boyd's smooth vocals,i knew that i would again not be dissapointed.'Wish you were here' is a gorgeous choice for a first single and although ballads are a theme on this album,Incubus also show how they are pure funk at heart with songs such as 'Blood on the ground' and the superb 'Under my umbrella'. The highlight of the album for me is the end track'Aqueous Transmission',a song so full of beauty. With chinese influenced guitars, flutes and oh so simple mixing made this song so harmonious and combined with Boyd's whispering voice they couldn't go wrong.
A triumph for one of the greatest and most unappreaciated bands around. Why are they so overlooked and we have crappy manufactured teenyboppers jumping out from every direction i will never know. All i do know is that if you are a fan of genuine heartfelt music that has been carefully written and played, seek out Incubus. They are so worth it.
