Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Your New Favourite Band is one cocky album: a greatest hits of album tracks and B-sides five years into The Hives' career and a title that demands your adulation. The music's no less cocky, with these five Swedes playing bubble-gum metal with the self-assured swagger that only the truly narcissistic rock & roll stars can muster. This batch of glorious guitar romps displays an allegiance to the punk snarl of the New York Dolls, the power pop immediacy of Cheap Trick and the riotous rock of Metallica. There's absolutely nothing new about The Hives, then, but that's the point. Joyously, they reach back to the roots of rock excess with a pop sensibility that every aspiring band in the world craves. This band has that rare alchemy that takes the basic ingredients of rock & roll and makes them sound vital all over again. Your New Favourite Band closes with "The Hives Are Law, You Are Crime": cocky, but deservedly so. --Ben Clancy

CD Description

After a succession of releases with Swedish punk label Burning Heart, The Hives release their debut album 'Your New Favourite Band' for Alan Mcgee's Poptones. The Hives mix the sounds of garage rock and New York punk, with the added bonus of sharp suits. The single 'Supply And Demand' is included.

5.0 out of 5 stars Football managers, long dark winters, blondes & The Hives!, 9 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Sweden rocks, and if it weren't for their winters, I'd probably investigate moving there.

This album, a compilation of the The Hives best from previous releases, is B*L*I*S*T*E*R*I*N*G!. 110% full-on, buzz-saw, post-punk adrenaline. And every song sounds like the perfectly crafted tune as well. This is an album that will test your stereo max levels - there's no way you can play this softly.

Think Husker Du, Strokes, White Stripes, Ramones, the Velvets, Minutemen and the Pistols (without the politik) - they're all in there somewhere. But The Hives have managed to carve out their own sound as well. And it's beautiful.

Anyone else catch the Pixies-like guitar dives in the breaks of "Main Offender"?

At the price, this is a steal. I probably would have paid double for this. This is an essential record for the year!

Beg, borrow, steal. But get your new favourite band, The Hives.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favourite band, 25 Oct 2001
In today's world every growing gentle and mellow bands it's great to hear a band who have balls. The suit wearing 5 piece from Sweden mix punk, garage, hardcore and new wave into this great album. If you like bands like the Strokes and White Stripes but are looking for something faster, louder, heavier and better the Hives are the band for you. Tracks such as the amazing 'Supply And Demand' and 'Main Offender' will blow you away and you'll soon be wondering who are the Strokes?

5.0 out of 5 stars Crikey..., 25 Jan 2002
By A Customer
The first few listens of this gem will probably confuse the bejazus out of you. You simply cant figure out what the hell is coming out of your speakers its so damned chaotic and demented, but you quickly learn to love it. If like me your interested in guitar based music has been put to sleep by American post-grunge slop and the even more insidious yawnings of Travis et all., this is a f'ing godsend. The antics of the band kinda detract from what an ferociously talented group these are. Ram this stick of dynamite in your cd player and take cover...
