2.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmmm..., 22 Jan 2002
Now I bought this album on the recommendation of a couple of people, and along with the fact that the band often receive mention with the likes of VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk - which is pretty much the type of thing I'm into - I expected something I would appreciate. However, if dancey semi-industrial EBM is what YOU are into, I really doubt that 'Wreath of Barbs' will get you too hot and sweaty. I'm not saying that its a bad album, but I do feel that it won't really appeal to those of you who are buying it for its 'techno-industrial danceflor fillers'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Techno-Wumpscut, 21 Oct 2001
By Vexen Crabtree (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Wumpscut's traditional vocals and style is present in this CD, but the nastiness and horror which was always prominent in Wumpscut's other original cds takes a back-seat.

In it's place, as you might expect, is basic dance-oriendated Techno-Industrial. And this is done very well... there are several dance-floor fillers here.

There isn't any of the odd, broken and experimental tracks that you can find on other Wumpscut productions. Which is bad, because the CD is therefore less Wumpscut as we are used to, but it is also good, because there are no unpalatable surprises! It's pure dance.

Track 11 is notable because it's a cover (and I don't recall ever realizing that a Wumpscut track has been a cover before. It is "Eclipse" a cover of a track by the same name by Kirlian Camera, an electronic-gothic-minimalist-dramatic track which was as powerful (and-predated) Sisters of Mercy's dramatic style.
