Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Set in a County General Hospital, the multi-Emmy winning ER is very much in the tradition established by the earlier Hill Street Blues. Like that series, ER is also set in Chicago and features a range of strong characters whose personal lives often reflect the turmoil of their working environment. It also similarly features a deft, fast-moving mix of comedy, intrigue and tragedy. It's could also be seen as a precursor to The West Wing, in that we regard with some awe the ability of these characters to keep on top of the mounting chaos in their day-to-day lives and the myriad problems thrown at them. In ER, this chaos may mean crack addicts, violent patients tumbling through plate glass screens, vindictive senior staff or a Chief of Staff who insists that fellow surgeons operate on his sick dog.

ER is best known for introducing George Clooney to the world as the likable but maverick Dr Ross and has often featured star guests such as Sally Field and Ewan McGregor, while several seasons have seen the coming and going of various personnel. However, if one character embodies the strength of ER it's Dr Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), whose dedication to his job has seen him turn down lucrative and cosier offers in the private sector, and who is an exemplar of decency, selflessness and emotional stability. The episodes dealing with his father's death were among the most moving in the series, touching as they did on a theme never far from ER's surface, that of reconciliation with mortality. --David Stubbs

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing stuff which keeps you on the egde of your seat., 19 April 2002

Wow, it doesn't get any better than this. Watching this series in order enables you to build that relationship with the cast that makes you love it now even in series seven. With the introduction of Kerry Weaver and Susan Lewis's turmoil coping as a single mum. We even see the development of minor character Gennie as she copes with the traumatic news that she may have HIV from her ex.
Humourous yet brillient Carter develops and grows into a skilled doctor in the Chicago County hospital Even with the occasional appearence of William.H.Macy the show goes from strength to strength.
What keeps me interested however isn't the stars. It is the fact that nothing is held back. We have seen a development of relationships in and out of the workplace. I can't wait for series three to come out on video.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, 27 Nov 2001
By A Customer
It was great to see this series. I've moved around so much and seen so many ER episodes, but most definately not in order. Now, to see them, one after another was brilliant. You really see how the characters develop.

It seems like there are at least 7 series, so ... When are the rest being released? How about on DVD?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente, 18 Sep 2001
I've written my s1 review, now it's time for the s2 one. S2 is one of the best seasons of ER ever. It has classic eps like "Welcome Back, Carter" and "Hell and High Water". The characters are developed more in this season, especially Carter. All I want now is s3 or DVDs...
