Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

With more and more viruses starting to pose a threat to the way we run our computers, it's vital that your system is inoculated. Get your virus definitions up to date and protect your PC with McAfee VirusScan 6.0. This XP-compatibe version is easy to install, and even easier to keep current with an automated update feature, with a user-friendly interface that is run like a Web site, allowing you to perform a number of functions quickly and easily to keep your computer safe.

Underneath the gleaming bonnet, McAfee offers an impressive array of treats to keep bad omens at bay and offers seek-and-destroy facilities as well as the option of setting up a quarantine area on your hard drive so you can inspect viruses once found. But it doesn't stop there-not only will it protect your PC with the always-on virus detector, it will also offer protection of your e-mails, happily integrating itself into Microsoft Outlook and it will even e-mail any recipient that has sent you a virus informing them of the fact.

McAfee VirusScan 6.0 offers a good solution for the novice and expert alike and also for anyone looking for an effective protection solution. Those looking for the ultimate protection for both their PC and PDA should perhaps look towards McAfee VirusScan Professional 6.0. --Jason Denwood

VirusScan 6.0 is one of the first anti-virus software that comes with an integrated personal firewall, an easy-to-use application that blocks hackers from gaining access to your system. Whether you have a dial-up or broadband connection, the firewall puts up a barrier to protect you and your PC... even when you're away from your computer. VirusScan 6.0 software includes advanced detection technology that consistently finds new viruses. It also provides instant updating via the Internet to ensure that your computer is always protected from the latest virus threats.

1.0 out of 5 stars Runs bad on Windows XP, 21 Feb 2002
By A Customer
I recently installed VirusScan 6.0 Pro on my PC running Windows XP, This product as far as im concerned is definately not compatible with XP as claimed, I had a number of problems which eventually ended up with me having to reformat my hard drive & do a clean install of XP Professional.

The worst problems I encountered were when using the built in CD burning wizard in XP an error message would pop up stating that another program was using the files trying to be written to disk, this prevented me from being able to burn anything to CD, also when trying to empty the recycle bin it was taken over by the McAfee shredder which would lock up so you would have to click on edit, select all, & delete to empty any trash in the bin, updating the software online also proved troublesome, after around 45 mins of downloading updates & installing it told me that the updates were incompatible with my system & were for NT operating systems.

I would like to point out that my system ran fine untill i put VirusScan & Quick Clean on my system, Now I have reformatted & reinstalled Windows XP Pro the system is running fine again.

My advice if you are running XP is to stay well clear of this product, very dissapointing & im not happy at all shelling out good money for a product which wrecks your system!!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Product - Buy It, 11 May 2002
By A Customer
Don't you just hate it when people who obviously have a vested interest in a product engage in a "Star Ratings War" with their opposite numbers representing competitor's products ?!?
The bottom line is that this product deserves neither 0 or 5 stars - but it is very good nonetheless. I've been using McAfee for 3 years or so and I've always found it to be very good at what it does. Provided you keep your DAT files up to date you'll stay virus free. And no I don't work for either McAfee or Symantec !

2.0 out of 5 stars A cheep product., 23 Feb 2002
I bought his a few months ago mainly because it was cheap. I wish I'd forked out more for norton. I've not had as much trouble as some of the other people here, but it has been a pain. I had to download a 6Mb patch to fix some very basic conflicts with outlook Express which really should have been checked before VS6.0 was launched. Even after the patch I still get a funny McAfee box in the middle of the desk-top when I start up, it freezes my computer and it won't go away for around ten minutes. I've tryed to turn off the virus scan at start-up but it makes no difference. All in all I wouldn't buy a McAfee product again.
