Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
Victorious Boxers boasts a knockout combination of incredible 3-D motion-captured graphics and addictive gameplay. The title introduces gamers to Ippo, who, fresh off the mean streets, meets an old trainer who puts him in the ring. Gamers must start at the bottom, then earn the right to a pro placement. Eventually, by working up the professional rankings, they may get a crack at the world champion.

The game differs from other boxing titles in that it offers career progression through constant improvement, and gamers must learn new moves to progress. Listen to your trainer and he will advise you as each fight progresses. You can take on more than 40 boxers in a huge variety of boxing arenas. See the crowds grow as each fight attracts a larger and larger purse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Boxing yet!!, 6 Oct 2001
By mr b j iley (Leeds, England) - See all my reviews
What a game!! The king of boxings games is here. It might not seem that way at first but once you change the controls to more user friendly setting you will find yourself ducking and bobbing with the best of them.
The graphics are amazingly smooth but the backdrops are quite bland but with so much action in the ring you don't notice. The punches you throw have a real feel of weight behind them and the satisfaction of landing a big shot is unmatched in other boxing games.
A lot of magazines have down rated this game mainly due to the lack of energy bar to gauge how much gas your fighter has left. I feel this throws a fantastic twist to the game, you have to judge by the speed of your foot movement and your puches etc to see if its time to back off or attack.
The one player mode puts on the road to beat 40 fighters and this is really hard but rewarding as the fighters you beat you can use in the 2 player mode. The 2 player mode is where this game excels get a few friends of equal skill and it becomes a real test of skill and cunning. The choice to save the whole fight for replays is a great option and has been used on many an occation thats how good this game is, you are happy to watch "classic" fights again and again.
So listen to me not the magazines this is the best boxing game possibly the best fighting game on the PS2.
Just remember to change the control system!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Please don't buy this game!!!, 24 Jan 2002
By A Customer
i've played a lot of fighting games and this has to one of the worst I have ever played. I bought this game on offer due to the first customer review on it. however, don't be fooled by what he said.
The controlls are terrible, slow to react and the directional buttons stay fixed i.e. down always means backwards even when your face is facing the screen.
It seems totally random of who gets knocked out. I let someone hit me in the face for five minutes, after which i was still stading and used one punch which knocked him out.
please, please dont by this game!

4.0 out of 5 stars a game of skill not button bashing, 23 Feb 2002
By A Customer
although not perfect this is by far the best boxing game out at the moment on any system.

Although you definitely need to put a bit of practise and patience in to start to get to grips with it. However once you do it feels more like real boxing than any other boxing game i have played.

Maybe not as slick as EA who seem to concentrate in looks not gameplay for all there games this is the game to own for fans of real boxing not arcade style beat em ups (Ready to Rumble etc).

Could of done with maybe an option to clinch and also access to all the fighters from the beginning (you have to progress through single player to unlock them and Ippo has a bit of a glass jaw) but overall wicked fun esp. 1on1 with a mate.

If you want a game of skill and as close as yet simulation of boxing as you can get right now get this. If you want a quick two minute punch fest get knockout kings.
