Synopsis

Oasis have been criticised by some as being one of the most derivative, unoriginal music acts of the 1990s. In fact, their music is distinctly recognisable, and it is this catchiness which highbrow critics instinctively condemn that has made them one of the most loved bands of the late 20th century. While their irresistible pop songs have propelled them to incredible fame and wealth, it is the high drama of their personal lives which have made Oasis media darlings. Singer Liam Gallagher's arrogant, malevolent attitude and offensive antics are a thorn in the side of older brother (and Oasis mastermind), Noel. This rock star persona that inspires sibling rivalry also makes the band an extremely interesting and unpredictable live act. This can be viewed on LIVE BY THE SEA, an excellent concert film. Performing in 1995 at South England's Southend Cliffs Pavilion, the Gallaghers and their band are in top form, rocking through songs such as Columbia, Some Might Say, Live Forever, Good to Be Free, Supersonic, and the Beatles cover I Am the Walrus. This release also features promo videos for Rock 'N' Roll Star and Cigarettes & Alcohol.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Oasis Performance!!!, 5 Oct 2001
By tscherubino@uol.com.br (Goiania , Brazil) - See all my reviews
Should I try to describe a perfect thing?
Recorded live at the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend-On-Sea on 17 Abril 1995, and produced by Phil Barnes, this show includes fantastic performances of the main Oasis' successes: "Live Forever", "Some Might Say", "Cigarettes and Alcohol", "Supersonic", "Acquiesce" and "Rock'n Roll Star". To complete, the Beatles' cover "I Am The Walrus", other good tracks like "Columbia", "Up In The Sky", "Sad Song" and much more! The Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, were simply spectacular in this first live work released, based on the first Oasis' album: Definitely Maybe. Is it important to you know how everything started? Here you are! The begin of all! It's a must for you, a big fan of the phenomenon called Oasis!

4.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!, 7 Oct 2001
what can be said about a fantastic performance by the greatest british band since the beatles? well basically its a top quality DVD only flawed by its lack of extras. if it had some kind of behind the scenes footage then this would easily get 5 stars. if you're a fan of good rock music then this is for you!!

this is by far the best oasis dvd as its mostly the songs from definatly mabye and thats their best album. slide away and supersonic are brilliant, the best live versions of them ive heard. their is only one song thats missing that would of made this dvd perfect is morning glory as i think that is a great rock song. but apart from that i could watch this all day.

Considering that at the time Oasis only had one album (Definitely Maybe) and a bunch of single b-sides, Live By The Sea is a show where they strum out hit after hit. Read more
