5.0 out of 5 stars Anzio, 30 Mar 2003
This review is from: Anzio [1969] (VHS Tape)
Robert Mitchum stars as an American news correspondent, covering the landing at Anzio, in 1944. Waiting for the troops, the Germans are dug in, with heavily fortified defenses. Follow a band of men, stranded behind enemy lines, fighting desperatley to warn the troops landing about the hidden German trap.

This film shows scenes of glorious heroism and hideous carnage, proving Anzio to be one of the most decisive and fierce campaigns of World War 2.

This powerful and electrifying war drama is guaranteed thrills a minute entertainment.

One of my favourite films of my collection.
Not exactly a Saving Private Ryan, but if you like War Classics, this one is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good way to spend two hours., 29 Jun 2007
This review is from: Anzio [1969] (DVD)
Anzio is a good attempt to explain the mistakes which made this forgotten battle so bloody. Although by no means a classic it is enjoyable and does contain a few quite memorable lines especially towards the end. Robert Mitchum essentiallly plays a similar character to many in his other films but this is by no means a criticism. All in all a good way to spend an afternoon.

3.0 out of 5 stars a plain DVD, 22 Mar 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Anzio [1969] (DVD)
The film quality is good, but the DVD is pretty plain, without any added features apart from the film itself, which is what we normally expect from DVD release.

1.0 out of 5 stars Anzio - you must be joking!
Don't even think about wasting your money on this pathetic offering. As one who takes war films very seriously, I cannot believe that Robert Mitchum actually agreed to be a part... Read more
