Product Description

CD Description

Roaring back with a vengeance and seemingly without pause for breath, NOBODYS HEROES finds Stiff Little Fingers once again examining the frailty of the human condition in time of war. While this preoccupation with life and death can come across as either preachy (Billy Bragg), goofy (Chumbawumba), or even pedantic (the Clash's later work), to SLF it seems more than just a reaction to circumstance than a defence mechanism in a country divided by barbed-wire.
However, SLF are canny enough to realise that no mere punk band can actually cause change by itself (as evidenced in the brilliant title track where lead singer Jake Burns advises fans not to let your heroes get your kicks for you) as true change comes from collective involvement. "Tin Soldiers", with its rant against the futility of the army, and "Fly the Flag" with its indictment of Great Britain's colonialism and neglect of thepoor prove that perhaps the best resistance is found in punk rock catharsis. "Bloody Dub" finds the band once again embracing outlaw imagery and the oppositional culture of reggae's most mysteriously satisfying subculture.

5.0 out of 5 stars gotta get this album, 25 April 2003
By A Customer
Re-discovered this album after a 15 year absence and I have to say this still rocks. Its almost a shame we live in such a nice world now that the poverty and repression that breeds music of this type is gone forever on these shores. It trully reeks of angst and outrage at the conservative and class divided society that existed in britain in the 80's. Ok its a bit raw at times but SLF were decent songwriters and as genuine as they come. If you like rock music or punk I recommend this is the album to sample if you are unsure of SLF. Its so accessible I think my granny might like it! One play and youll be pogo-ing around your living room with a broomhandle mike stand. I hope the band are making a few quid now, last time I saw the guitar player he was in a glam rock tribute band touring the greek islands!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, 3 April 2005
Trying to pick one or two stand out tracks would be an exercise in futility as the entire album is outstanding. Containing their best selling single, "At The Edge", Nobody's Heroes is possibly one of the best Punk albums ever made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this the best punk album ever?, 8 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This album is a must have for any fan of punk rock. For me, the only album that could compete with it for the title of "best ever punk album" would be Bad Religion's "Stranger than fiction". With songs like Nobody's hero and Fly the flag and superb bonus tracks, such as Straw dogs, this is an album that I would not even mind buying twice. So I will. I already own the LP; now I'm buying the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars This for me is the first album by the real Stiff Little Fingers.
I mean no disrespect, to Brian Falloon. When you put 4 guys in a room/hall or a on a stage sometimes it just clicks and they feed off each other. Read more
