Though Brendel is one of the most distinguished pianists of our time, his Mozart interpretations are not held in high regard by all. The Peguin Guide to Recorded Classical Music calls these renditions "self conscious", and I can see why. There is a thoughtfulness, a self restraint, to Brendel's playing that is not usually considered a Mozart trait.
I suppose it isn't. As far as this recording goes as a Mozart reading, I cannot give it more than 3 stars. On the other hand, if you are going to have recordings of the Mozart sonatas by more than one pianist, you might very well want to make this one of them, just because it offers a different look at the material. This doesn't really feel like Mozart to me, but I greatly enjoy it as music!
Depending on how critical you intend to be in a musicological sense, you might be disappointed, or love this CD for it's almost introspective feel.
