5.0 out of 5 stars A good album to play in the car, 3 Sep 2001
By richard@ballanr.freeserve.co.uk (Hailsham, East Sussex) - See all my reviews
The Golden Section by Mr.Foxx Original realease 1983, Still sounds fresh and imaginative today.Tracks such as YOUR DRESS a song about how people change by the clothes they wear,The beatles-esq SITTING AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD and with the inclusion of the brilliant, almost Gospely A KIND OF WAVE (first time on CD). Shows a slight change of direction for John Foxx on this Album. Its great to hear creative song structures on all his albums (even the bizzare ones)which much of todays music is seriously lacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Third Time Lucky, 9 Aug 2005

OK, let's set some ground rules here, I'm not going to go into the whole "original Ultravox vocalist" thing and I'm not going to mention Metamatic, his seminal debut album from 1980. That's got that bit out of the way.

The Golden Section was John's third solo outing and in my opinion is the best of the lot. Or should I say, I feel it's his most complete work. There are a few of singles to enjoy on here, Your Dress, Endlessly and Like A Miracle. All were strong tracks and really should have troubled the charts much more than they did

All the tracks are trademark Foxx, a mishmash of guitar and electronics. There are some really strong contenders on here, My Wild Love, Ghosts On Water and Hidden Man stand out in particular. John sticks to his usual themes built around cityscapes and solitary figures wandering around them.

There are some fine bonus tracks culled from b-sides and extra tracks on 12" singles. I'd like to particularly mention Annexe with is so beatlesque than I'm surprised the Fab Four's lawyers didn't come knocking on his door.

For me, The Golden Section shows John as a European rather than the quintessential Englishman he was on Metamatic and The Garden.

It took 18 years for this to appear on CD and it was worth the wait. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of John Foxx so far, 6 Jun 2004
By A Customer
John was never really a top 40 star in the 80s and has remained underground ever since. This is possibly the pinnacle of his achievements and even mixes Beatle type harmony with electronica. From the opener "My Wild Love" , "Someone" and "Your Dress" to the excellent "Endlessly" and the ghostly "Twilight's Last Gleaming" this is an excellent piece of work which was overlooked in the early/mid 80s. The bonus track "A Kind of Wave" is worth the price alone.
