5.0 out of 5 stars How on earth has vocalist Geoff Tate not achieved world fame, 29 Sep 2001
By Mr. S. T. Kilroy (Harrogate, North Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In Geoff Tate Queensryche have the greatest singer not to have achieved world wide recognition. As a vocalist he has a simlar voice to the late Freddie Mercury, Only Tate has a much better range than Freddie did. In 1988 Queensryche released probably the best metal concept album of all time - Operation Mindcrime, only Dream Theater's 1999 piece 'Scenes From A Memory' comes close. Operation Livecrime is a live version of the mindcrime album. Tate is superb as his operatic voice hit's all the high notes with great timing. From the opening track of 'Revolution Calling' to the final track 'Eyes Of A Stranger' this album grips you just like a great suspense thriller film. This album is a must for any real music fan. If you have not got it, BUY IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still amazing after all these years!!!, 28 Sep 2001
By liribrown@prodigy.net (Chicago, Illinois (USA)) - See all my reviews
Seattle based Queensryche broke into the mainstream in 1990 with the release of their multi-platinum effort Empire. But most would agree that it was 1988's concept album, Operation: Mindcrime, that first displayed the greatness of this progressive metal band. Operation: Livecrime is a re-issue of the 1991 release of the same name. It captures in all it's splendor the entire Mindcrime performance which the band performed during it's marathon Building Empires tour in 1990-1991.
With amazing guitar playing, perfect vocals throughout (including a performace by Pamela Moore as Sister Mary) and all the production bits from the original recording, Livecrime has done a spectacular job of capturing one of the greastest live bands in the world performing one of the greatest concept albums of all time.
By the way...there's two additional tracks added to the re-issue. Both songs were recorded during the same two night stand in Wisconsin that produced the Livecrime performance. The first song, The Lady Wore Black, was the first song ever penned by the Queensryche gang, and the second, Roads to Madness, is the epic closer to their first full length album, The Warning. These extra gems uphold both the performace quality and energy of the entire Livecrime recoding.
Since the original Operation: Livecrime (which was a CD and Video) is no longer available, this is a MUST HAVE for all rock fans.
One last note, a DVD of this performace is being released shortly!
